A bag of money and gold bangles that were looted from a State Bank of India (SBI) branch in Karnataka, in a daring heist by three masked men, were recovered from the roof of a house in Maharashtra on Friday.

The bag was found during a search operation that was jointly carried out by the Maharashtra and Karnataka police after gold ornaments worth Rs 20 crore and Rs 1 crore cash was stolen from the SBI branch in Karnataka’s Chadachan town on Tuesday evening.
According to police officials, the house in Huljanti area of Mangalvedha taluka in Maharashtra’s Pandharpur was locked when the bag was found on its roof. Visuals from the spot showed an official struggling to carry the bag on his own, due to the weight of the stolen items.
A shocking robbery took place at a State Bank of India (SBI) branch in Vijayapura district, Karnataka, where armed robbers looted gold and cash worth several crores. According to initial reports, around 58 kg of gold and ₹8 crore in cash were stolen.
How the Robbery Happened
On Tuesday evening, a group of masked men, armed with country-made pistols and other weapons, entered into the bank. They tied up the employees, threatened the manager, cashier, and staff, and prevented them from pressing the alarm button. The robbers were also reportedly dressed in military uniforms to avoid suspicion.
The Robbers looted around 58 kg of gold and ₹8 crore Cash from State Bank of India. After looting the bank, the gang fled in a car.

Search Operation Launched
A joint operation has been launched by the Karnataka and Maharashtra police to track down the culprits. Senior officials reached the spot soon after the incident, and large crowds of locals gathered outside the bank.
“We rushed to the spot after information was received about theft of cash and gold ornaments in the bank. At present, there is no clarity on how much money and gold ornaments have been stolen. Investigation is underway. Only after the arrival of the senior bank officials, clear information about the stolen cash and gold ornaments will be available. We can only share complete information after all details are available with us,” informed SP Nimbargi after an on-spot investigation.
Similar Robbery in the Same City
This incident comes just months after another bank robbery in June 2025 in the same city, Vijayapura. At that time, 59 kg of pledged gold and ₹5.2 lakh in cash were stolen from a Canara Bank branch.
In that case, police arrested three key suspects, including the branch manager himself. The mastermind was identified as Vijaykumar Miriyal, the then manager of the Canara Bank branch in Managuli village. He was caught along with Chandrashekhar Nerella, a former bank employee turned contractor and casino operator, and Sunil Moka, his assistant.
