In a shocking case of bank fraud, two senior employees of IndusInd Bank’s Mirpur Tiraha branch in Machhlishahr were arrested on Sunday for allegedly embezzling ₹17.32 lakh.

What Happened?

According to the police, the incident came to light after the bank’s unit manager, Shyam Bihari, inspected the branch on May 15, 2025. During his visit, he noticed something suspicious. When he asked to check the cash locker, both the branch manager Rahul Kumar Singh and the credit manager Jaiprakash Yadav refused to open it.

Due to their hesitation, Shyam Bihari became suspicious and insisted on opening the locker. After much pressure, the locker was finally opened at around 1:30 PM. To everyone’s surprise, only ₹73,881 was found inside.

Huge Amount Missing

As per official bank records, on May 14, a total of ₹15,97,246 was deposited in the locker. Additionally, ₹2,08,707 was collected from women borrowers as loan repayments. Altogether, ₹17,32,000 should have been present in the branch locker. However, most of this amount was missing.

Police Complaint and Arrest

After confirming the missing funds and the absence of any proper cash records, unit manager Shyam Bihari filed an FIR at the Machhlishahr police station. Acting swiftly, police launched an investigation and arrested both employees on Sunday.

According to Inspector-in-charge Vineet Rai, the accused were arrested from the Srinetganj turn. The arrested individuals have been identified as:

  • Jaiprakash Yadav, resident of Cheruiram, Kotwali Dehat police station area, Mirzapur district.
  • Rahul Kumar Singh, son of Deshraj Singh, resident of Futhan Abholi, Suriyanwa police station area, Bhadohi district.

Both have been presented before the court, and chargesheets (challans) have been submitted against them.
