In a proud moment for Jharkhand and the banking industry, Rohit Dayal Shukla, hailing from Daltonganj in Palamu district, has been awarded the prestigious Gold Medal at the inaugural World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES) 2025, held at the Jio Convention Centre, Mumbai, from May 1 to 4. Rohit Dayal Shukla works as Manager in Indian Overseas Bank. Rohit Dayal Shukla received the honor for his remarkable historical graphic novel, which has been illustrated using the traditional Sohrai art form native to Jharkhand.

The award-winning graphic novel is based on a powerful historical narrative—the legendary battle between Raja Medini Rai, a valiant ruler of Palamu, and Dawood Khan Panni, a lieutenant of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. The unique blend of indigenous art and rich historical storytelling left a strong impression not only on attendees but also on the esteemed jury panel at the summit.

WAVES 2025 is a flagship initiative of the Narendra Modi government and was organized by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting as a landmark event for India’s Media & Entertainment (M&E) sector. The summit aimed to bring together innovators, storytellers, and technology leaders from around the globe. It was inaugurated on May 1 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who emphasized the importance of merging India’s cultural heritage with cutting-edge creative technologies.

Rohit Dayal Shukla, currently serving as a Manager at Indian Overseas Bank, is also a passionate storyteller and a lifelong collector of comics and graphic novels. Over the past three years, he has been actively engaged in writing book reviews and experimenting with fiction writing, gradually carving out a space for himself in India’s creative landscape. Shukla shared the spotlight with Shivangi Shaily, an accomplished fashion designer from the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Delhi, who was also recognized at the summit for her contributions to fashion design rooted in Indian tradition.
