The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) recently arrested two individuals, including a Deputy General Manager (DGM) from Oil India Ltd (OIL) in Duliajan, Assam, and a DGM (Sales & Marketing) from a private company. The charges include demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 7 lakh. Out of this, the accused public servant bought gold worth Rs 3,73,550.

Details of the Case

On May 3, 2025, the CBI registered a case involving four individuals. These included the Deputy General Manager of Oil India Ltd, the Managing Director and DGM (Sales & Marketing) of a private company based in Noida, the private company itself, and several unknown public servants. The investigation revealed that the accused public servant, along with the DGM from the private company, was involved in illegal activities. They were allegedly accepting bribes in exchange for awarding contracts and clearing bills for the private contractors or suppliers. This corrupt behavior led to significant personal gains for the accused, while causing a wrongful loss to the Union Exchequer.

Allegations of Bribe

The investigation further revealed that the public servant demanded 70 grams of gold jewelry for himself and another unknown public servant. This was in exchange for helping the private company win a contract. However, the private company’s DGM told the public servant that he could not buy the gold as planned. Instead, he would give Rs 7 lakh in cash.

The Bribe Delivery and Arrest

The Managing Director of the private company arranged for the bribe amount of Rs 7 lakh and delivered it to the public servant. Of the total amount, the public servant purchased gold worth Rs 3,73,550 from a shop in Noida. He kept the remaining Rs 3.34 lakh in cash.

Following this, the CBI set up a trap and arrested the accused public servant while he was in possession of the Rs 3.34 lakh in cash and documents related to the gold purchase.

Further Arrests and Search Operations

The CBI also arrested the public servant and the DGM (Sales & Marketing) from the private company. Both will be presented in the Special Court (CBI) in Ghaziabad on May 5, 2025.

In addition, CBI conducted searches at the residences and offices of the accused in various locations, including Delhi, Noida, Dibrugarh, and Tinsukia. The searches led to the recovery of gold jewelry (which was obtained as a bribe), over Rs 30 lakh in cash from private individuals, mobile devices, and several documents related to the illegal activities.
