ICICI Bank MD & CEO summoned over illegal termination of Employees

ICICI Bank, one of the leading private sector banks in India, finds itself embroiled in a significant controversy. Recent reports suggest that a number of employees have been unjustly terminated by the bank. In response, these employees have taken legal action against ICICI Bank, demanding a thorough investigation into the matter.

Adding to the bank’s woes, the Labour Commissioner has summoned the Managing Director and CEO of ICICI Bank, Mr. Sandeep Bakshi, to a meeting scheduled for June 28, 2024. The Labour Commissioner’s office has received numerous emails alleging that ICICI Bank has engaged in the illegal termination of employees without providing adequate prior notice. Furthermore, it has been claimed that the bank continues to disregard established processes and policies in this regard.

The meeting between the Labour Commissioner and ICICI Bank’s leadership promises to shed light on the allegations and determine the appropriate course of action. As the controversy unfolds, all eyes are on ICICI Bank, as the outcome of this investigation could have far-reaching implications for the bank’s reputation and standing within the industry.

Employees have turned to social media platforms to voice their discontent regarding the bank’s purported unethical conduct. According to reports, several employees, including women, have been terminated without adequate notice or valid justifications. Employees who have shared email screenshots claim that the bank has heartlessly forced them out of their positions, ignoring their pleas and grievances. Additionally, there are allegations that the bank’s Human Resources department is exerting significant pressure on employees, coercing them to resign against their will.

This sudden termination has caused significant hardships for the employees, including financial difficulties, inability to meet basic needs, paying off loans, handling medical emergencies, and covering children’s school fees and care for elderly parents. Despite their efforts to contact HR Management for a proper response, none of their emails or calls have been answered. Tragically, one employee from Uttar Pradesh has committed suicide. Employees report experiencing exploitation, humiliation, and an unsuitable work environment due to biased senior staff who consistently demotivate and belittle junior employees.

  1. Quite true. This practice is prevalent in ICICI bank from very long time. Due to social media , now this things are getting noticed. They had spoiled the life of so many employees so far.

I have not been given a bonus either. Even after my confirmation, I received calls from HR that I have to resign forcefully. I was threatened that if I do not do so,I will be terminated. Spent 13 yr of service of long I hv decide to resigned 15th june2024 best performance and honesty worked but situation make by me being difficult long distance transfer suddenly received mail I could not afford decide to Resign atleast left bank and very sad I loved always icici bank and work honest and discipline respect Bosses but distance from family transfer shuttered me .     1. Same as happening nowadays in icici bank. If u loveable of ur BM and RH and oiling properly then only u can survive into bank atmosphere or else u will get into new virus “RMG” no bonus , no increment. It’s actually happening coz bank want to save their money and cost cutting on CTC. It probably increase bank wealth, but will decrease their valuable employee. Time can change any time ..watch it #icici bank

  4. I was a BM and all of a sudden without any discussion my designation was downgraded and literally I was left with no other option but to resign. Even I am currently in a job which I am not liking.

  6. It’s common in I Bank, Irrespective BM’s are manipulating the branch employees to RH in a wrong way so attritions was higher than any other Pvt banks. The summon should be highly appreciated.

  8. Same situation with all private sector banks. There should be govt regulations on the bank for the employee and specially for working hours,late night sitting. They only want employees who sell more and more products and work 24 hrs for them. No personal life of employees

  10. Yes this illegal practice in icici bank, without any intimation same thing happened with me and this is 2nd time my location is transferred 500km far so no one can revert on mail also even zh or hr also not responding so there is good dicision

Same thing happened to me inwas located in my home location andbfrew the business there by 40 pc which was evident from the various mis floated by the bank but due to dip in business in a single month in April when the whole bank took a dip inwas suddenly forced to relocate to another district saying that business is not happening. My mother is ill and am the only son to take care of her but no pleas were entertained and I was transferred without a justification or else was asked to put down the paper

  12. I was also BM in Saharanpur and forcefully transferred to Balrampur because don’t go as per RH . Double the branch in 10 months, Top in Assets but can’t do buttering so result transfer 700km

I have been working since from ,2013 from officer grade to dbm now 9 year’s i have almost to much debts no proper salary i worked like anything to give by best always as Top in the region,but here very politics,caste feelings n whoever close to bm n rh they vll dominant n service who do work hard they get more pressure,,, because of small issue from my subordinate she complain on me vthout any proper investigation.not considering my service she was very arrogant even to previous Bose’s ego transferred to 3 branches because of her attitude issues,she is very close to rh n bm ,they transferred me in 2 day ..I was very disturbed tried commit suicide,when i reached hr they said talk to ur Rh thts it disconnected my cals even my zh am supported rh only….i cried infront of hr he was just heartless said moveon …tht issue effected me alot ..lot of pressure on seniors

  16. Senior put employee under the RMG program when employee doesn’t satisfied seniors personal ego. RMG program not paid bonus and increments to employee and also transfer the employee to other state.i am that employee who face this critical situation. Its not easy to find the job on short time HR not listening to employees voice single time or not discuss about that he will taking step towards to the employee. It was very bad experience I haven’t seen that type of culture in my entire professional carrier.

  17. I was also the part of ICICI BANK as a Deputy Manager (1) . One day directly inform to me your are transferred to another state from backend to front desk . This is not possible to me so I gave resignation from my designation.

  20. HR MANAGER is just a toy , whatever ZH says that he/she will do.
    They are not the decision makers. They are robots.
    No work for HR managers other then listening to ZH.
    HR never listen to employees.
    Actually HR is for employees betterment.
    Here just opposite.
    First RMG should be Given to ZH level people. They are simple taking con calls and wasting employees time. And they are the only person who is highly paid.
    For taking con call they are getting such huge salary.
    They never work in ground level. They even know what is happening in ground level. They don’t even know how people are running to achive their targets.

    They simple set a targets and asking down the line to achieve it.

    Remove all top level management people then see how bank will get net profits.

  21. Yess, It is a very critical point please focused on. One my senior authority who’s I’m reporting she will very jealous on talent and hard working, she was hardly demotivating me for the job. I have learn all those things Theorotically and I’m topper of trade finance subject but according to my senior I am very poor learner and I’m wasting of time.
    No one cooperate with new employees.
    ICICI bank lunched very easy application for there employees, but senior Continouslly demotivating, and putting fear for all work and applications.
    So how new people learn and how thay will perform no one knows.
    Finally I was decided this work not for me, and I should leave this job.

  22. Requested HR Multiple times for transfer, as my dad was bed ridden and has become completely blind. Due to delay in taking my dad to hospital, he was kept ventilator and after 5 days he expired.
    In last 2 years I have been operated 4 times (1 time low back, 2 times right shoulder and 1 time left shoulder). My condition is very painful.
    Now my mom is bed ridden, still they are not giving transfer

  23. Agreed this is happening to icici bank at all levels.. People who are RSH, RH, ZH they think they are owners and running there own business.. They keep transferring employees with there own choice. They harass employees deligently. They do all types malpractices to do the business. All bosses and credit team are jointly employed in all malpractices.

  25. Yes, I am X employee of this Bank and subjected to same treatment of terminating my services inn year 2011 after working for them around 19 years. My fault was to raise voice against their corrupt performance appraisals system as per their own laid down systems.

    Due to complaining about their faulty appraisal system, I was given punishment transfer which I did not accepted so they terminated my services without following any rule of natural justice. Latter some employees told me that I was target strategically to get rid of me due to my higher age.

    No justice to me yet. Thanks ICICI for the life time gift in lieu of my services.

I have given my precious 12 Yrs to ICICI Bank and got promotions also but suddenly I became a burden for them and when I resigned no one in Organization bothered to ask me the reason of my sudden resignation that to in the last quarter..I resigned because I was having the fear of being put in RMG as I witnessed my supervisor being put in RMG without any reason..there was no explanation for this fate..He is still suffering there..
    Right now they don’t have any parameter of the performance then on what basis they put people in RMG just because their ego is no massaged…and also those are doing buttering such people are getting YOY promotions and good hike in salary too..

    1. It is surprising for me too that how can they gets the Best Company Award. I recently left ICICI because of too many con calls in late evening like 7:30 PM to 8 PM . If call finished at 8 PM then you can imagine at what time branch usually closed. Many friends are still working in ICICI they told me that senior management ask ZH and RH for no calls but still calls happens. So i can say senior management is taking right decisions but some leaders are not listening. I was in small town of UK but leaders asking is like metro city. ICICI should take some action to some leaders as they treat people like servant.

Still many friends are working in ICICI they told me that senior managment asked ZH and RH for less calls but still they are taking calls on daily. Very bad enviornment in UK.

  29. Hr dept , puppet of seniors, give targets to put employees in RMG . Seniors like ZCH expects females to give favours and entertain them . If they dont , then they starts targeting u for work . Even a employees who is top in all the MIS related to capabilities regarding work , can be put in RMG just on the basis of so called feedback from ZCH . Even if a prior behavior complaint was done with HR regarding that ZCH . Hr will just ignore thoes facts and given decisions on the basis of feedback . Even if team has worst employees, then also u would be put in RMG , bcoz hr will say a worst line that we dont compare employees, we wont see other team members work even if they have worst performance. Ultimately, you would be force to resign due to toxic work environment, and worst expectations from ZCH. And the thing is u can proove a harassment but not the flirting attempts by ZCH so Ultimately u have no options just to resign, and spoil ur own career.
    Seniors do that bcoz they know u r new joiner, u have liability of PO Program Emi and no influence in the system .
    Worst HR system and seniors hierarchy
    Muster updation for attendence is a scam to put employees on question and take discipline actions bcoz muster does not even work properly sometimes due to network issue then hr will highlight this point and use against u . They will only see your 9:15 am officially time to come to office but hr wil never see ur homegoing time which is even 8 oclock usually due to workload.
    Partiality has become a norm in icici bank.

    It is nothing but violation of service conditions.if employees found guilty,they should be given an opportunity to prove that they are not guilty. HR department should follow the rules and regulations

Hr dept , puppet of Seniors, They don’t able to find what is right and what is wrong, I invested my 14 years in ICICI Bank, when I feel some difficulty in with the team since My RH and One of my female SM is created wrost environment at my work place since they have started their enjoyment at my work place , and this impact my performance , Then I took help of Hr I thought Hr will Help Me , when after two month nothing is happened , I start mail Marking to Hr and that employee and ZH , I Have highlighted unprofessional activities beetween RH and sm and shared Lacs of frauds transaction Beetween RH and Sm and more than 7 people name Along with account no where money transaction is clerly visible details given to hr, but nothing is happned , Sab log mil gaye or they trained that female against me and they all make a very wrost situation at work place , after giving all evdinces related wrong recruitment, Unprofessional activiaies beetween RH and SM , unauthorised transaction beetween employes , But no action taken aginst all culprits, Action taken aginst me and some other whom are innocent,Sandeep Bakshi Ji,Soumundera Soumundera mattacharya Head Of HR Jagoo
