Huge Rush in Banks in West Bengal due to Annapurna Yojana
The Annapurna Yojana has resulted in huge rush in Banks in West Bengal. Women are visiting banks to link their bank accounts with Aadhaar and mobile numbers to receive the monthly benefit of Rs 3,000 under the scheme.
On Tuesday, the Department of Women and Child Development and Social Welfare issued a notification stating that the financial assistance of Rs 3,000 per month will be directly credited to Aadhaar-linked bank accounts from June 1.
About 24 hours after the notification was issued, long queues of women were seen at public sector banks across the city.

Neither the banks nor the government has taken any steps to ensure the smooth functioning of branches amid such a huge rush. Employees are getting frustrated while handling such large crowds.
According to the notification, all existing beneficiaries of the Lakshmir Bhandar Scheme will be shifted to the Annapurna Yojana, except those marked as dead, shifted, deleted, or absentee voters during SIR 2026.
Beneficiaries of Lakshmir Bhandar who have filed appeals before the SIR tribunal or applications under the Citizenship (Amendment) Act will continue to receive financial assistance under the new scheme until their applications are decided.
Several women who earlier received the monthly Rs 1,500 allowance under Lakshmir Bhandar were also seen standing in queues.
