An embezzlement case has been filed against Sandeep Kumar, the head cashier at the Bank of Baroda’s Lohta branch, following a complaint by the bank’s regional manager, Sanjeev Kumar Varnwal. The complaint was lodged at the Lohta police station, and the police have now started an investigation.
How the Incident Happened
According to the details shared by the regional manager, four account holders visited the Lohta branch of Bank of Baroda to deposit money into their accounts. At the bank counter, Sandeep Kumar, who was on duty as the head cashier, accepted the cash from these customers. He gave them official receipts stamped with the bank’s seal, making it look like the deposits were successful.
However, when the customers later checked their bank accounts, they were shocked to see that the money had not been deposited.
After the customers raised concerns, the bank carried out an internal investigation. It was discovered that a total of ₹2,70,000 (two lakh seventy thousand rupees) taken from the four customers was never deposited into their accounts. This pointed to a clear case of embezzlement.
Police Action
Nikita Singh, the officer in charge of the Lohta police station, confirmed that a case has been officially registered against Sandeep Kumar based on the complaint from regional manager Sanjeev Kumar Varnwal. The police have launched a full investigation to look deeper into the matter and find out if anyone else was involved.
The police will now investigate how the fraud was carried out, whether any other bank staff were involved, and what actions need to be taken to recover the lost money. The Bank of Baroda management has assured customers that they will cooperate fully with the police and will work towards resolving the issue as quickly as possible.
