An internal investigation by HDFC Bank has uncovered evidence that two senior executives disclosed confidential business strategies and potentially market-sensitive information to outsiders. The probe was initiated after internal leadership raised concerns regarding data leaks. Both executives oversee key businesses and operational functions within the bank and have been formally notified of the findings.
The data shared includes sensitive internal business plans and potential market-moving corporate strategies. The internal review is currently ongoing to determine if the leaked information was actively misused for external gain.
An HDFC Bank spokesperson confirmed the internal review, stating that appropriate action will be taken once all relevant facts are gathered.
According to media reports, some senior officials suspected the leak, prompting the bank to launch an internal investigation and identify these officials. The bank is still investigating whether the leaked information was misused.
In March 2026, former Chairman of HDFC Bank Atanu Chakraborty had resigned over ethical concerns. In his official resignation letter, he stated that “certain happenings and practices within the bank,” which he had observed over the prior two years, were “not in congruence with [his] personal values and ethics”. Chakraborty reportedly clashed with HDFC Bank CEO Sashidhar Jagdishan over the bank’s core business strategies and human resource policies.
Meanwhile, the bank’s stock has fallen by approximately 28% this year. It is reported that the investigation and its findings were disclosed to senior management and some board members earlier this year.
