Government Bank Employee gets Explanation Call for Taking One Day Sick Leave
A government bank employee said he received a warning email from the HR department after taking just one day of sick leave. On Reddit, the employee shared a screenshot of the email. The email said that taking leave without prior permission is a serious violation of official rules.
The employee added that the email asked for a written explanation within three days. It also warned that not responding would be considered an unsatisfactory explanation. The employee said he was surprised because it was only one day of sick leave.

The Reddit post was titled “There is no work-life balance in government banks.” Its caption read:
“I took one day of leave because I was sick, and this is what I received the next day. For people who think getting a government job in India is a good choice, think again.”

The email screenshot showed that the HR department, under the subject line “Explanation for Proceeding on Leave Without Prior Permission,” reminded the employee that such behavior “reflects negligence towards official responsibilities and disregard for administrative discipline.”
The post has sparked discussions about strict leave policies in government jobs and the pressure employees face. Earlier this week, another Reddit post by a government bank employee also went viral. In it, the employee talked about the difficulties that led him to quit his job.
In his post, the 39-year-old employee wrote, “At 39, I feel suffocated in my government bank job. I don’t think I can do it anymore.” The employee revealed that his work life had taken a serious toll on his health. He is now suffering from high blood pressure, thyroid problems, and fatty liver disease. According to him, this happened because of Transfers to far-off and remote places, Strict sales targets that were almost impossible to meet, Extremely long working hours, often stretching from 10 am to 10 pm, Weekend work with no real time to rest (Work on Sundays).
