In a shocking case of bank loan fraud, the Sarojini Nagar Police of Lucknow has arrested one of the accused involved in illegally taking a loan by forging property documents. This incident came to light after a resident of Bhojpur, Bihar, named Jaiprakash Gupta, filed a police report on September 6, 2024. The report accused Neelam Awasthi and Ajay Awasthi, residents of Janakpuri Colony, of committing fraud.

How the Fraud Happened

According to Jaiprakash Gupta, he had purchased a house in Amausi from Neelam Awasthi on September 11, 2018. He made the purchase in the name of his sister-in-law, Malti Devi. As part of the payment, Jaiprakash initially gave ₹1.5 lakh as an advance and later paid ₹4 lakh more to finalize the deal. Everything seemed fine until August 21, 2024.

On that day, employees from Aryavart Gramin Bank visited the house, and Jaiprakash discovered something shocking. The bank officials informed him that a loan had been taken against the very house he had purchased. This raised suspicions, and after further investigation, it was found that Neelam and Ajay Awasthi had fraudulently created fake property documents. They even forged Malti Devi’s signature and used these forged papers to secure a loan from the bank.

Threats and Arrest

When Jaiprakash confronted the accused and tried to file a complaint, they allegedly threatened to kill him. Despite the threats, he proceeded with reporting the fraud to the police. Acting swiftly, the Sarojini Nagar Police launched an investigation and received a tip-off on Monday about the whereabouts of one of the accused.

Based on this information, the police arrested Ajay Awasthi near the Airport Commercial Tiraha and sent him to jail. Meanwhile, the police are actively searching for Neelam Awasthi, who is still absconding.

Police Action and Ongoing Investigation

The arrest of Ajay Awasthi is a significant development in this case, but the investigation is not yet over. The Sarojini Nagar Police have assured that they will continue their efforts to find Neelam Awasthi and bring her to justice. This incident serves as a reminder to be cautious while purchasing property and to thoroughly check legal documents to avoid falling victim to such frauds.
