On Monday night, an attempted robbery took place at the State Bank of India (SBI) branch in Itwa, Siddharthnagar. Thieves tried to break into the bank by damaging the grills of two windows. However, they were unable to access the strong room where the bank’s valuables are kept.
After failing to open the strong room, the thieves fled the scene with the DVR (Digital Video Recorder) of the CCTV cameras, which was likely taken to destroy any evidence of the crime.
The attempted robbery was discovered early on Tuesday morning when the cleaning staff arrived at the bank. They found the broken window grills and scattered papers on the floor. Concerned, the cleaning staff immediately informed the branch manager, Arun Kumar Jaiswal.
Upon investigation, it was found that the thieves had also attempted to break the grill on the large southern wall of the bank, but were unsuccessful.
Branch manager Arun Kumar Jaiswal confirmed that the cash and jewelry stored inside the bank were secure. He noted that the only item stolen was the CCTV DVR.
The Itwa police and a forensic team arrived at the scene shortly after the incident was reported. SHO Itwa, Shri Prakash Yadav, stated that an investigation is underway. The bank management has also filed a formal complaint with the police.
