
DBS Bank India has announced the appointment of two experienced professionals, Ambuj Chandna and Santanu Mitra, to lead major business areas as part of its strategy to strengthen operations and grow its presence in the Indian market. These leadership changes reflect the bank’s focus on long-term growth, improved customer service, and deeper integration of digital banking solutions.
Ambuj Chandna has been appointed as the Managing Director and Head of Consumer Banking Group. He replaces Prashant Joshi in this role. With nearly 30 years of experience in the banking industry, Ambuj brings a wealth of knowledge in consumer finance and retail banking.
Before joining DBS Bank India, he served as President and Head of Consumer Assets at Kotak Mahindra Bank. In his new role at DBS, Ambuj will be responsible for managing the bank’s retail banking operations, DBS Treasures (the bank’s wealth management offering), digital banking platforms, and customer engagement efforts.
His previous work experience includes leadership roles at ING Vysya Bank, Fullerton Financial Holdings, and Citibank. Academically, Ambuj holds an MBA from the Institute of Management Studies, Indore, and a Master’s degree in Strategic Marketing Leadership from Henley Business School in London.
Santanu Mitra has been appointed as the Managing Director and Country Head of Corporate Banking (Large and Midcap) at DBS Bank India. He was previously based in Singapore, where he served as Managing Director and Head of the Digital Economy Group in the Institutional Banking division of DBS Bank. Santanu is well known for his deep understanding of the Technology, Media, and Telecommunications (TMT) sectors.
In 2020, he played a key role in launching DBS’s Digital Economy business, which focuses on supporting startups and technology-driven enterprises. Now returning to India, Santanu will lead the corporate banking division that serves large and mid-sized companies.
His earlier experience includes senior positions at PT AXIS Telekom Indonesia and Macquarie Bank. He is an alumnus of IIM Ahmedabad and holds a B.Tech (Hons) degree from IIT Kharagpur.
Both Ambuj and Santanu will report to Rajat Verma, Managing Director and CEO of DBS Bank India. Rajat Verma expressed his confidence in the new appointments, stating that India remains a key market for DBS, and the bank has achieved consistent growth in recent years.
He emphasized that the leadership of Ambuj and Santanu will help the bank maintain its strong performance by combining digital innovation with traditional banking strengths, ultimately offering more value and convenience to its customers.
