A special CBI anti-corruption court in Ghaziabad has convicted Dharmveer Singh, a recovery agent of Punjab National Bank (PNB) in Hathras, in a bribery case. On 29 August 2025, the court sentenced him to 23 months of imprisonment along with a fine of ₹10,000.

What is the case all about?

The case began on 14 September 2022, when the CBI filed a complaint against Dharmveer Singh. He was accused of asking for a bribe from a person in return for convincing a bank manager to give a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for settling a Kisan Credit Card (KCC) loan taken in the name of the person’s father.

The Kisan Credit Card (KCC) is a scheme to provide farmers with easy and affordable access to credit. Farmers can borrow money from banks at low interest rates to meet their agricultural needs such as purchasing seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, and other inputs.

Acting on the complaint, the CBI laid a trap and caught Dharmveer Singh red-handed on 15 September 2022 while he was accepting a bribe of ₹10,000. After investigation, the CBI filed a chargesheet on 14 November 2022, and the court framed charges against him on 24 August 2023.

On 6 August 2025, Dharmveer Singh admitted his guilt and applied for plea bargaining. The special CBI court accepted his request. On 29 August 2025, the court convicted him and announced him the sentence.
