CBI Court Sentences Four People to Two Years in Jail in SBI Bank Fraud Cases

The CBI Court in Shimla has sentenced four private individuals to two years of imprisonment in connection with three bank fraud cases involving the State Bank of India (SBI). The court also imposed a total fine of ₹80,000 on the four convicted persons.

Four Convicted in Bank Fraud Cases

The four convicted persons are Bachitter Singh, Roshan Lal, Harkirat Singh, and Shammi. The CBI Court sentenced them on July 14, 2026, after they were found guilty in three bank fraud cases.

Case Registered in 2013

The CBI had registered the case on February 22, 2013. The case was filed against Raj Kumar Kainth, the then Branch Manager of SBI, Dehra; Kuldip Singh Bhatoa, the then Field Officer of SBI, Dehra; S.M. Paul, the then Branch Manager of SBI, Dehra; Mohinder, the then Manager (PBD), SBI, Dehra; Suresh Kumar, a private person; and other unknown SBI officials and private persons.

The accused were alleged to have entered into a criminal conspiracy to obtain Kisan Credit Card (KCC) loans from SBI’s Dehra branch in Kangra district, Himachal Pradesh. According to the CBI, they used fake and forged documents to obtain the loans and later failed to repay them, causing a loss to the bank.

CBI Filed Multiple Charge Sheets

After completing its investigation, the CBI filed 20 separate charge sheets before the Court of the Special Judge, CBI, Shimla, against bank officials and private borrowers/persons. It also filed 19 separate charge sheets before the Court of the Special Magistrate-cum-Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Shimla, against private persons.

Court Convicted the Accused

The court convicted the four accused on July 6, 2026. After hearing the matter, the CBI Court pronounced the sentence on July 14, 2026, awarding each of them two years of imprisonment. The court also imposed a total fine of ₹80,000 on the convicted persons.
