On June 30, 2025, a special CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) Anti-Corruption Court in Ghaziabad sentenced four people, including a former bank manager of Union Bank of India, to jail in a bank fraud case. The court also imposed a total fine of ₹22 lakh on them.

The people convicted in this case are:

  1. Manoj Srivastava – Former Branch Manager, Union Bank of India, SSI Branch, Noida
  2. Deepak Malhotra – Private individual and owner of M/s Girdhari Lal & Sons
  3. Raj Kumar Samanta – Private individual
  4. Rakesh Kumar – Private individual

What Was the Case About?

The CBI had registered this case back on December 14, 2010. Between May 2007 and June 2009, while working as the Branch Manager at Union Bank’s SSI Branch in Noida, Manoj Srivastava misused his official position. He worked together (in criminal conspiracy) with Deepak Malhotra, Raj Kumar Samanta, and Rakesh Kumar to get a loan approved using fake documents. The bank gave out a cash credit (CC) loan of ₹40 lakh and a term loan of ₹10 lakh, based on forged and false documents. This caused a financial loss of ₹50 lakh to the bank.

Legal Action and Court Proceedings

A charge sheet was filed against all four accused on September 29, 2012. The court officially framed charges against them on November 15, 2018. After years of legal proceedings, the CBI Special Judge in Ghaziabad gave the final judgement on June 30, 2025.

Punishments Given by the Court

  • Deepak Malhotra has been sentenced 5 years of imprisonment and will have to pay ₹14 lakh fine.
  • Manoj Srivastava (Ex-Branch Manager) has been sentenced 3 years of imprisonment and will have to pay ₹3 lakh fine.
  • Raj Kumar Samanta has been sentenced 3 years of imprisonment and will have to pay ₹2 lakh fine.
