The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has successfully brought back Munawar Khan, a fugitive wanted for forgery and cheating, from Kuwait through INTERPOL channels.
The operation was carried out by the International Police Cooperation Unit (IPCU) of CBI, in coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and NCB-Kuwait. Khan, who was the subject of an INTERPOL Red Notice, was escorted by Kuwait Police and landed at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Hyderabad, on September 11, 2025. He was immediately taken into custody by a CBI team from the Special Task Branch (STB), Chennai.

Munawar Khan is accused in FIR No. RC 3(S)/2011, registered by CBI Chennai, for criminal conspiracy, cheating, and forgery. He, along with others, had allegedly defrauded the Bank of Baroda, after which he fled to Kuwait and was declared a proclaimed offender.
A Red Notice was issued against him by INTERPOL on February 7, 2022, at the request of CBI STB Chennai. Following his arrest by Kuwaiti authorities, a decision was made to extradite him to India. INTERPOL’s Red Notices are circulated worldwide to help law enforcement agencies track and locate wanted criminals. In recent years, more than 130 fugitives have been brought back to India using these cooperation channels.
