A team of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) raided the Union Bank of India branch in Robertsganj, Uttar Pradesh, on Friday afternoon. The team caught a clerk named Manish Aggarwal taking a bribe of Rs. 18,000 in exchange for approving a loan application.
The CBI team arrived at the branch at 3:30 p.m. and closed the main gate for the duration of the investigation. The Robertsganj Kotwali police also arrived at the scene.
The CBI team spent several hours investigating the branch, during which time the bank was closed and a crowd of local residents gathered outside.
Circle Officer City Rahul Pandey said that the CBI team had received a complaint of corruption against the bank clerk.
The CBI has filed an FIR against Aggarwal at the Hazratganj police station in Lucknow. The CBI team is investigating whether any other people were involved in the corruption.
The CBI team also questioned Aggarwal for several hours and seized documents from the branch. The team has taken Aggarwal into custody.
