Guwahati, June 12, 2025 – The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a senior professor from North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong, along with a private firm owner from Guwahati, for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹3.43 lakh. The arrest took place during a trap operation conducted at Guwahati University Guest House.
According to the CBI, the arrested professor is the Head of the Zoology Department and also serves as the Dean of the School of Life Sciences at NEHU. The second accused is the proprietor of a private firm based in Guwahati.
A case was registered on June 11, 2025, after the CBI received source-based information that the firm owner was working in close coordination with the professor and others to secure illegal benefits. It is alleged that the professor accepted bribes in exchange for awarding supply orders for scientific equipment, laboratory materials, and for clearing related bills.
The CBI laid a trap and caught both individuals red-handed while they were involved in the bribe transaction.
