CBI arrests Bank manager and employee red handed while taking bribe

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken a major action against corruption in Sitamarhi district of Bihar. The branch manager of Bihar Gramin Bank, Babhangama branch and a daily wage employee have been arrested red handed by CBI while taking a bribe of Rs 10,000. This action was taken on the basis of a complaint in which the accused had demanded a bribe in exchange for releasing the subsidy already approved under the Pradhan Mantri Employment Generation Program (PMEGP).

According to the complainant, in the year 2022, he got the loan sanctioned under the PMEGP and it was also disbursed. After this, the bank was deliberately delaying the release of the subsidy amount of the scheme. To take this process forward, the branch manager of the bank and a daily wage employee demanded a bribe of Rs 15,000.

The complainant brought this matter to the notice of CBI, after which on 29 May 2025, CBI registered a case against both of them. As per the plan, CBI laid a trap. Then the accused were arrested on the spot while taking a bribe of Rs 10,000.

After the arrest, the CBI team raided the residential and office premises of the accused in Sitamarhi. During this, many objectionable documents have been recovered, which are now being made a part of the investigation. According to CBI sources, these documents indicate that this is not an isolated incident, and many links may be revealed in the future.

Both the arrested accused will be presented in the court of CBI Special Judge, Patna on 30 May 2025. The remand of both will be sought from the court, so that further investigation and interrogation can be done. CBI has confirmed that the investigation in this case is still going on. After getting clear evidence of bribery at the primary level, the matter is now being investigated in depth. It is being seen whether other such complaints are also related to this branch or other branches.
