A case of FD fraud has come to light at the District Panchayat Complex branch of Canara Bank (formerly Syndicate Bank) in Aligarh. As per the complaint, the FD amount was embezzled from the account of a bank customer. The FD was opened with the compensation money received by the customers for the deceased son, Vinay Kumar, and was in the name of his mother, Savitri Devi. It is alleged that the bank manager and employees colluded to embezzle the funds, even though the original receipt is in the family’s possession.

Bank records show cash payments related to this FD were made on three different dates in 2014. The victim’s family approached the court, following which a case was registered against the then bank manager at the Civil Lines police station under Section 409 of the Indian Penal Code.

This fixed deposit was made on December 9, 2010. Savitri Devi discovered the embezzlement when she visited the bank in 2025 following a notice from the District Legal Services Authority. The family claims that Savitri Devi never visited the bank and that payment was impossible without the original receipt.

Police are now forensically examining payment vouchers, signatures and internal withdrawal messages from the bank dating back to 2014. More details will be released soon.
