Canara Bank reported a net profit of ₹5,175 crore for the second quarter of the financial year 2026-27 (Q2 FY27), registering an 8.4% year-on-year increase from ₹4,774 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year. The Bengaluru-based public sector bank also reported strong growth in its overall business, with global business crossing the ₹30 lakh crore milestone during the quarter ended September 30, 2026.
The bank’s global business increased 15.88% year-on-year to ₹30.72 lakh crore, supported by growth in both advances and deposits. Global advances rose 19.46% to ₹13.75 lakh crore, while total deposits increased 13.13% to ₹16.97 lakh crore. The growth reflects continued expansion in the bank’s lending and deposit operations.
Canara Bank also reported strong growth in its core banking income. Net interest income (NII), which represents the difference between interest earned and interest paid, increased 20.4% year-on-year to ₹11,004 crore. The bank said the improvement in NII highlighted the strength of its core business operations during the September quarter.
The bank also reported an improvement in asset quality. Its gross non-performing asset (GNPA) ratio declined to 1.33%, comfortably below the bank’s internal guidance of 1.50%. A lower GNPA ratio indicates that a smaller proportion of the bank’s gross advances has become non-performing.
The net non-performing asset (NPA) ratio also improved, falling to 0.30% during the quarter. The decline in both gross and net NPA ratios indicates an improvement in the quality of the bank’s loan portfolio.
