Canara Bank is again in news and users are again criticizing the bank on social media. But Why? Because Canara Bank has this time asked its staff to source savings account on holidays (Saturday and Sunday). Earlier the bank had issued explanation call to one of its staff for not sourcing savings accounts.

The above screenshot is of Patna Region wherein the staff has been instructed to actively participate in debit card activation and source savings accounts. The message read: As Crest debit card activation status is very poor. Head Office has instructed to complete it in a given timeframe and all Branches to ensure that next two days i.e. Saturday and Sunday is utilised to meet and greet our HNI Crest customer and deliver them Card and get green pin generation. Those staff not sourced 5 accounts may try to get reference from these crest customer for opening quality SB account.

Canara Bank has launched a campaign – Each 1 Source 5 Campaign. In this campaign, each staff of Canara Bank has to open 5 savings accounts. Staff who have not opened accounts in this campaign are being issued explanation call. Click here to read this news.

The core issue is not with the goal of sourcing accounts, but with the method being employed to achieve it. Public sector employees are entitled to their holidays, and instructions that require mandatory work or targets on weekends or holidays undermine this right. Such directives should be reconsidered and avoided during official holidays, ensuring that employee well-being and work-life balance are respected.
