A district court has sentenced two men to life imprisonment for the brutal murder of a bank agent, Hukum Singh. The convicted individuals, Aslam Khan (46) and Nand Kishore (37), killed the agent, packed his body in a sack, and dumped it in a drain to cover their crime. The murder was committed to steal money from the victim and pay off their debts.
Strong Evidence Led to Conviction
The case against the accused was strengthened by solid witness testimonies, digital evidence, and circumstantial links, which helped the prosecution secure the conviction.
The Crime Unfolded
On August 17, 2022, Kiran Singh, the victim’s wife, reported her husband missing to the Rajendra Nagar police station. She explained that her husband, a collection agent for Bandhan Bank, had left home at 7 a.m. on August 16 but did not return for lunch as usual. His phone was switched off when she tried calling him.
Unable to locate him after checking with neighbors, relatives, and friends, Kiran informed the police, who registered a missing person report and began their search.
Discovery of the Body
On August 19, 2022, a driver informed the Rau police station about spotting a sack containing a dead body in a drain near Kamal Nagar. The police retrieved the body and sent it for postmortem. The victim’s brother, Ramcharan, later identified the body as Hukum Singh.
Investigation and Arrests
The police examined CCTV footage from the area and found Hukum Singh riding on a bike with Aslam Khan. Upon interrogation, Aslam initially denied involvement but later confessed to the crime. His accomplice, Nand Kishore, was also arrested.
The two admitted to conspiring against Hukum Singh, knowing he carried large sums of money from daily collections. On the day of the crime, Aslam lured Hukum Singh to his home, where both attackers struck him on the head with a stone. After rendering him unconscious, they strangled him with a rope.
The body was stored in Aslam’s house until midnight, when it was packed in a sack and disposed of in a drain. They also burned Hukum Singh’s belongings, including his phone, tablet, and documents, and abandoned his bike near Tejaji Nagar Bridge to mislead investigators.
Evidence and Conviction
The prosecution presented a compelling case with evidence from CCTV footage, forensic reports, the postmortem examination, and statements from bank employees and customers. These details helped establish the chain of events leading to the murder and proved the involvement of the accused.
The court sentenced both Aslam Khan and Nand Kishore to life imprisonment for murder. Additionally, they were sentenced to two years in prison for destroying evidence. Rita Bhandari represented the government in the case.
