Robbery in ESAF Small Finance Bank: In a daring daylight robbery, five thieves stole approximately 15 kg of gold worth around ₹14 crore and ₹5 lakh in cash from a small finance bank in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur district. The price of 10g of 24k gold (99.9%) in Delhi is Rs.1,02,820.
According to police, the entire robbery was executed in than 20 minutes. The incident occurred on Monday morning at the bank’s Khitola branch, shortly after it was opened. Notably, there was no security guard present at the time.
The robbers arrived on two motorcycles, wearing helmets to hide their faces and avoid being identified in CCTV footage. They entered the bank and quickly stole 14.875 kg of gold from the locker along with ₹5 lakh in cash.
Jabalpur Range DGP Atul Singh told that the robbers entered the branch at 8:50 a.m. and walked out by 9:08 a.m. Although they did not openly display weapons, one member of the gang had a firearm tucked into his belt. There were six bank staff members present during the robbery.
Shockingly, police were informed about the incident 45 minutes later, after the bank’s senior officials discussed the situation. Singh said that if this delay had not happened, they could have tried to catch the robbers. “Had they informed us in time, the robbers could have been caught,” he said.
Reports suggest that the bank had opened early—at 8 a.m. instead of its usual 10:30 a.m. The bank staff gave reason that the branch was opened earlier due to the festive season rush.
This incident comes just weeks after a similar robbery in Andhra Pradesh, where burglars stole 10 kg of gold and ₹38 lakh in cash from an SBI branch in Thumukunta village, Sri Sathyasai district. SBI reportedly hadn’t had a security guard for the past four years, and the culprits stayed inside the branch for over two hours.
Bank Robberies are increasing day by day and the banks should tighten their security.
