Buxar, Bihar – A chaotic scene unfolded on Thursday in Niazipur market, Simri block, during an encroachment removal drive. The local administration, in its bid to clear illegal structures for road widening, accidentally demolished the staircase of a building housing a branch of South Bihar Gramin Bank.

The unexpected demolition left customers and bank staff stranded on the first floor of the building. As the trapped individuals raised an alarm, a crowd gathered outside, prompting the administration to rush back to the site. With the help of a JCB machine, all those stuck inside were safely evacuated.

Temporary stairs were later arranged, but operations were disrupted for hours, causing inconvenience to bank employees and customers throughout the day.

Notice Issued Prior to Demolition

According to the administration, notices were served in advance to property owners in the area to clear encroachments obstructing road construction. However, the warnings were reportedly ignored by many. The drive was undertaken to facilitate road and drainage construction as part of a widening project extending from Asha Padri to the Buxar-Koilwar embankment.

Authorities acted on complaints from the contractor, who cited illegal constructions as a major obstacle to the progress of the project.

Police Presence Maintains Order

The removal drive created momentary chaos, but the presence of a police force ensured the situation remained under control. Senior officials, including SDPO Afaque Akhtar Ansari, BDO Shashikant Sharma, and CO Bhagwati Sharan Pandey, supervised the operation, accompanied by police teams from three stations.

Market in Disarray Amid Administrative Crackdown

The administration’s strict approach sent a clear message—encroachments hindering public projects will not be tolerated. The drive has caused a stir in Niazipur market, with some locals voluntarily removing temporary structures to avoid similar action.

The road-widening project, which includes the construction of drainage facilities, aims to improve connectivity and infrastructure in the region. However, the incident highlights the challenges and occasional unintended consequences of such enforcement measures.
