Bank of Baroda has announced 2,500 vacancies for the post of Local Bank Officer (LBO), which may initially seem like great news for bank job aspirants. However, there’s a significant concern — the vacancies have not been allocated to Hindi-speaking states such as Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Bihar. Instead, the majority of these openings are concentrated in non-Hindi speaking regions.

The LBO (Local Bank Officer) post has been introduced to address the increasing demand for appointing local candidates in bank branches. In recent times, several incidents have been reported from states like Maharashtra and Karnataka, where bank employees were pressured or even threatened to communicate in the local language. In response, banks have now started recruiting individuals who are familiar with the regional language. For example, only those with knowledge of Marathi will be eligible to apply for positions in Maharashtra.

Candidates from northern states such as Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and others have traditionally shown a strong preference for government jobs. A significant proportion of applicants for banking and other public sector exams come from these states. However, in the case of the Local Bank Officer (LBO) recruitment by Bank of Baroda, the eligibility condition requiring knowledge of the local language of the state where the vacancy is announced makes it difficult for these aspirants to apply.

Since the vacancies are majorly concentrated in non-Hindi speaking states, many candidates from Hindi-speaking regions are unable to apply despite having the qualifications, experience, and years of dedicated preparation. This situation has caused frustration among aspirants who feel excluded from an opportunity they have worked hard for. The recruitment policy, while aiming to ensure localized service, unintentionally sidelines a large and deserving section of candidates.

  1. Drama giving yield now. Now mistreatment to to a Hindi speaking bankers would be a common phenomena. Kudos to federalism, right to employment, non discremination on the basis of language, opportunity of vacancy in banks for BIMARUO states ( just a trigger, will be followed in other mass employment generation organisations)
