The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Abhishek Rai, the branch manager of Bank of Baroda’s Sikhola branch, on Wednesday night while he was accepting a bribe of ₹20,000. The manager had allegedly demanded the bribe in exchange for approving a Kisan Credit Card loan of ₹92,000.

Caught in a CBI Trap

The incident came to light when Mewalal Ram, a resident of Najibabad, filed a complaint with the CBI, alleging that the bank manager was demanding a bribe to approve his loan. Acting on the complaint, the CBI’s anti-corruption branch in the capital launched an investigation and set up a trap in Azamgarh. During the operation, CBI officials caught Abhishek Rai red-handed while taking the bribe.

Legal Action Taken

Following his arrest, the accused was produced before the special CBI court in the capital on Thursday. The court ordered that he be sent to judicial custody.

The CBI has launched a further investigation into the matter to check if more such cases are linked to the accused or if there is a larger corruption network at play.
