On Monday, April 22, 2024, the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) team arrested the manager and cashier of a cooperative bank in Korba district, Chhattisgarh. The manager, Amit Dubey, and the cashier, Ashutosh Tiwari, who are posted at the District Cooperative Central Bank Limited Branch in Pali, were caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a farmer named Ram Manohar Yadav.

According to the complaint filed by Yadav, he had sold paddy worth around Rs 5 lakh at the District Cooperative Central Bank Maryadit Branch in Pali. However, Dubey and Tiwari demanded a bribe of Rs 5,000 in order to process the payment for his paddy. Dissatisfied with this corruption, Yadav reported the matter to the Anti Corruption Bureau in Bilaspur.
After receiving the complaint, the ACB set up a trap to catch the manager and cashier in the act. Yadav went to the bank to pay the bribe money, but the accused were cautious and did not directly accept the cash. Instead, they deducted Rs 5,000 from the total amount and returned the remaining money to Yadav. However, the ACB team was able to recover the bribe amount from the cashier, providing evidence of the involvement of both Dubey and Tiwari in the incident.
As a result, both the manager and cashier have been arrested under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 (as amended Act 2018). The Anti Corruption Bureau in Chhattisgarh has encouraged people to report bribery and corruption cases by email, through their toll-free number (1064), or by visiting their office in person.
Despite of working in Govt. undertaking Bank and these cooperative banks are especially designed for development of farmers and Agriculture. Such employees and officers immediately be transferred to most far remote area. And after enquiry if their precedents are found evil, they must be terminated.
