The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested an Assistant Divisional Engineer of Northern Railways, Chandausi (Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh), along with his subordinate, a Trackman, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹34,000 from a private contractor.
Both officials were caught red-handed during a trap operation conducted on the night of July 4, 2025, while accepting the bribe from the complainant.
Case Background
A private contractor, who runs a firm and works with the Railways, approached the CBI with a complaint. He stated that the Assistant Divisional Engineer demanded a 2% commission—amounting to ₹34,000—to clear pending bills worth ₹17,57,605 related to a railway tender.
The contractor’s firm had been awarded the tender on January 19, 2024, by the Moradabad Division of Northern Railways for railway track fitting work.
Based on the complaint, the CBI registered a case on July 4, 2025, and immediately laid a trap. That night, both the Assistant Divisional Engineer and the Trackman were caught red-handed while accepting the bribe from the complainant.
After detailed interrogation, both accused were formally arrested on the morning of July 5, 2025. They will be presented before the Special CBI Court No. 1 in Ghaziabad today.
The CBI has confirmed that the investigation is still ongoing and further developments will be shared in due course.
