Will Banks be Closed on 12 February: Ten central trade unions have announced a major strike for 12 February 2026. Trade unions have alleged that the government is not paying attention to their demands and there is a significant delay from the government in implementation of their demands.

There are a total of 11 central trade unions in our country. Of these 11, 10 central trade unions, have joined the strike call. Only one central trade union—the BMS (Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh)—has not called for this strike. All central trade unions, except the BMS, are participating in the strike.

The 10 central trade unions that have called for the strike are: INTUC, AITUC, HMS, CITU, AIUTUC, TUCC, SEWA, AICCTU, LPF, and UTUC.

In addition to these central trade unions, various independent and non-affiliated sectoral trade unions and federations have also called for the strike. Farmers are also joining the strike. The Samyukta Kisan Morcha, which represents farmers, cultivators, agricultural laborers, and various organizations associated with them, is participating in the strike.

Are Bank Employees on Strike on 12 February 2026?

The bank unions have also provided their support to the central trade unions. The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) comprises a total of nine unions of bank employees and officers. Except for two unions—NOBW and NOBO – the remaining seven unions, namely AIBEA, AIBOC, NCBE, AIBOA, BEFI, INBEF, and INBOC, are supporting the central trade unions.

In addition, AIBEA, AIBOA, and BEFI have directly called for participation in the strike. Therefore, employees of public sector banks, private banks, foreign banks, and regional rural banks who are their members will go on strike.

What are the demands of Employees?

The employees’ demands are as follows:

CHARTER OF DEMANDS: PART A

1. Modify Terms of Reference of 8th CPC by incorporating suggestions/views given by Confederation and staff side NC-JCM on revision of emoluments of Employees and Pensioners and other issues.
2. Merge 50% DA/DR with Basic Pay/Pension, grant 20% of Pay/Pension as Interim Relief (IR) w.e.f. 1.1.2026.
3. Scrap NPS/UPS, Restore OPS for all Employees.
4. No distinctions amongst Pensioners should be made, potentially on the basis of factors like Date of Retirement and accepted recommendations of Central Pay Commission.
5. Release the three installments (18 months) of DA/DAR frozen during Covid pandemic to Employees and Pensioners; Restoration of commuted part of pension after 11 years instead of 15 years.
6. Remove 5% ceiling imposed on Compassionate Appointment, grant Compassionate Appointment in all cases to wards/dependants of deceased employee.
7. Fill up vacant posts of all cadre in all the Departments, stop outsourcing and corporatization in Government Departments.
8. Ensure Democratic functioning of Association/Federations as per JCM mechanism. A) Grant recognition to Association/Federations which are pending. Withdraw the de-recognition orders of AIPEU Gr. C UNION, NFPE and ISROSA.
   B) Stop imposition of Rule 15(1)(C) on service Associations/Federations.
   C) Stop vindictive victimization of Union functionaries.
9. Immediate implementation of the awards given by Board of Arbitration under JCM on which consensus has reached, in case of CA Ref. No. 3/2001.
10. Regularise Casual Contingent, Contractual labourers and GDS employees, grant equal status to Employees of Autonomous Bodies to that of Central Government Employees.

CHARTER OF DEMANDS: PART B

1. Scrap the Four Labour Codes.
2. No casualization of work in any form like Outsource.
3. Implement Equal Pay for Equal Work for contract workers.
4. Ensure Minimum Pension of Rs. 9000/- p.m. and social security to all categories of workers including unorganised workers and agricultural workers.
5. Removal of all ceilings on payment and eligibility of bonus, provident fund; increase quantum of gratuity.
6. Control price rise, remove GST on essential items like food, medicines, agro-inputs and machinery; reduce substantially central excise duty on petroleum products and cooking gas. Guarantee Food Security and Universalize the Public Distribution System.
7. Stop privatization of Public Sector Enterprises and corporatisation of Government Departments.
8. Withdraw the Draft Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2025.
9. Right to work be made fundamental. Fill up all sanctioned posts in the Government Department and generate employment for the unemployed.
10. Guarantee Right to Free Education, Right to health, water and sanitation for all. Scrap New Education Policy, 2020. Ensure housing for all.
11. Give ESI coverage to all unorganised workers, with contributions from the Welfare Fund; also give coverage to health schemes, maternity benefits, life and disability insurance to all workers registered on E-Shram Portal.
12. Withdraw the Sustainable Harnessing and Advancement of Nuclear Energy for Transforming India (SHANTI) Act.
