There is a big good news for PNB employees. PNB has revoked the suspension of branch heads, who were suspended for taking help of private employees in banking operations.
Most of the suspensions have been revoked and the remaining suspensions will be revoked soon.
Several branch heads of Punjab National Bank across the country were suspended following surprise visits by senior officials. During these inspections, unauthorized persons were allegedly found present in cash sections and working on branch computers.
It is alleged that some branch heads had been relying on private individuals such as generator operators, recovery agents, insurance company staff, PTS personnel and sub-staff to manage customer services and banking transactions due to severe staff shortages.
The bank had directed internal auditors (senior staff) to visit branches and inspect their functioning. The auditors found that, in some branches, private individuals were present on the premises and helping bank staff.
The suspensions followed the detection of fraud at a branch in Noida, which reportedly took place mainly because an employee’s password was shared. Following the incident, the bank conducted surprise inspections at selected branches across different circles to check whether similar practices were taking place elsewhere.
As per bank policy, outsiders cannot sit inside a branch and interfere in banking operations. Citing this policy, the bank suspended the branch heads.
One Letter shared with us stated – It is observed during Incognito visit of ZAO official it was found that One-person outsider was assisting in cash in cashier cabin on 27.10.2026 at 11.27 A.M. On scrutiny of CCTV footage one outsider was seen helping in closing of cash daily about 16.00 to 17.00. You are hereby advised to submit your explanation immediately by tomorrow 12.00 PM, as to why suitable staff side action should not be initiated against you for such kind of negligence and violation of laid down guidelines.

On the other hand, the branch heads said that there is a severe staff shortage in branches and that it is becoming impossible to run them. Therefore, they sought help from private individuals to manage daily operations and provide good customer service.
One suspended manager said, “The staff was on leave, and there was a huge rush in the branch. I requested the BC to help manage operations and provide good customer service. What crime did I commit? Why did the Circle Office not provide staff on deputation? Had deputation been provided, I would not have asked the BC for help.”
