A senior manager of the Central Bank of India’s Ruma branch in Kanpur has lodged a complaint at the cyber police station, alleging that three individuals prepared a forged bank statement to obtain a bulk payment facility from another bank. The accused allegedly pressured bank employees to activate the Corporate Internet Banking (CIB) bulk upload facility for a newly opened current account. The police have registered a case and started an investigation. The matter came to light on Friday at around 1:30 PM.
According to the complaint, Purnima Kumari, a native of Patna district in Bihar who currently lives in Shyam Nagar, Chakeri, is serving as the senior manager at the Ruma branch. She told the police that around three months ago, Akhil Singh Chauhan visited the branch along with his father and brother. They opened a current account in the name of Sadbhavna Solutions, with Sartaj Singh Chauhan and Prafull Singh Chauhan listed as its directors.
The complaint states that soon after opening the account, the accused started pressuring bank employees to activate the bulk upload facility through Corporate Internet Banking (CIB). Bank officials informed them that since the account was newly opened, the facility could only be provided after a few months of regular transactions. However, the individuals allegedly continued to put pressure on the senior manager and other branch employees despite the bank’s explanation.

The repeated pressure reportedly caused considerable mental stress among the branch employees. One female employee who had handled the account opening process was so disturbed by the alleged harassment that she even started preparing to take leave.
Following continued pressure, the bank eventually activated the bulk upload facility. Within two to three days, a large number of transactions were carried out through the account. After noticing suspicious transactions, the cyber cell placed a hold on Rs 58,35,175 in the account.
The matter took another turn when a bank statement was received by the branch. On examining the document, bank officials found discrepancies in the details. Although the account number mentioned in the statement belonged to the Gandhigram branch, the branch code and transaction details were linked to the Sadbhavna Solutions account maintained at the Ruma branch of Central Bank of India.

According to the complaint, Akhil Singh Chauhan had also opened an account in the name of Chauhan Suppliers at Jana Small Finance Bank. The senior manager alleged that a forged bank statement was prepared and sent to the staff of Jana Small Finance Bank through WhatsApp to obtain a bulk payment facility. The document was subsequently forwarded to her through a DSA, raising suspicion of an attempt to use forged banking records for financial fraud.
Purnima Kumari has approached the cyber police station seeking strict action against the accused. Station House Officer (SHO) Abhay Singh said that the matter is currently under investigation and further action will be taken based on the facts established during the investigation.
