A heated argument took place between Tundla MLA Prempal Singh Dhangar and the manager of the Station Road branch of Punjab & Sind Bank over a dispute concerning an outstanding Kisan Credit Card (KCC) loan. A 2-minute-and-13-second audio clip of their phone conversation began circulating on social media on Tuesday evening. The MLA had contacted the branch manager after a couple approached him with a complaint about the loan amount and the bank’s recovery demand.

Mamta and her husband, Siyaram, residents of Dhirpura village in the Nagla Singhi area, told the MLA that they had applied for a KCC loan of ₹5 lakh in 2016 but received only ₹4 lakh. According to the couple, they have already repaid the loan along with interest. However, they alleged that the bank is demanding repayment based on a loan amount of ₹5 lakh, including interest.

After receiving their complaint, MLA Prempal Singh Dhangar called Prahlad Mangal, the manager of the bank’s Station Road branch, to discuss the matter. Due to poor network connectivity, the conversation was not clear at first. The MLA then expressed his displeasure, saying, “This is the Tundla MLA speaking… do I have to keep introducing myself?” In the audio clip, he questioned why the bank was seeking recovery of ₹5 lakh when the couple claimed they received only ₹4 lakh. He urged the manager to resolve the dispute by providing a clear account of the loan amount and repayments.

During the conversation, the branch manager reportedly made remarks about politicians, prompting a strong reaction from the MLA. Prempal Singh Dhangar said that people approach their elected representatives with complaints and that officials should listen to their grievances and help resolve genuine issues.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the manager’s behaviour, the MLA said he would take up the matter with the bank’s senior authorities and the District Magistrate. Meanwhile, branch manager Prahlad Mangal maintained that the couple had defaulted on the loan and must repay the outstanding amount along with the applicable interest. The dispute remains centred on the amount originally disbursed to the couple and the bank’s calculation of the outstanding dues.
