The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) organised a protest on October 10, 2026 to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the complete rollback of the Election Commission of India’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

The CJP and supporting student/activist groups (such as AISA and AISF) accused the Election Commission of modifying voter lists and favoring the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Former Tripura Chief Minister and CPI(M) leader Manik Sarkar has been detained in Delhi in view of the anti-CEC protest. Former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, CPI(M) General Secretary M.A Baby, senior CPI(M) leader Brinda Karat and Rajya Sabha MP John Brittas were also among Left leaders detained by Delhi Police. Aishe Ghosh, SFI National Joint Secretary, is detained at Gurudwara Bangla Sahib Gol Chakkar.

Peaceful protesters are being detained and taken to an undisclosed location as they attempted to reach Jantar Mantar for the planned anti-CEC demonstration, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) said.

CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke, along with leaders Saurav Das, Ashutosh Ranka, legal head Ratna Singh, YouTuber Dhruv Rathee, former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, and RS MP John Brittas, were detained by police.

YouTuber Dhruv Rathee has been taken into preventive detention by the police today morning from his parents’ residence in Sector 56, Gurugram. Around 50 police personnel had gathered outside the Gurugram residence late Friday night, and officers entered the flat at around 7:48 AM on Saturday to place him in custody. He was later moved to an undisclosed location in Gurugram.

Entry and exit gates at 45 Delhi Metro stations (including Rajiv Chowk, New Delhi, Central Secretariat, and Kashmere Gate) were closed. Mobile internet services were suspended for 24 hours within a 4 km radius of the Janpath-Kartavya Path crossing. Over 250 incoming and local trains scheduled to arrive at New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin stations were cancelled, and more than 30 blockade/diversion points were set up at the city’s borders.

Over 35,000 police and paramilitary personnel have been deployed across central Delhi.

The Delhi Traffic Police Advisory has enforced traffic diversions and restrictions across 30 key locations in New Delhi and Central Delhi starting from 6:00 AM on October 10, 2026, due to a planned protest at Jantar Mantar. Around 45 metro stations have been closed. Click here to check list.
