The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has discovered a nationwide banking recruitment racket involving impersonation and cheating. The network was operating across Delhi, Bihar, Haryana and West Bengal. The CBI has arrested four key accused, including a Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) inspector, in connection with the case.

The investigation began after the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) filed a complaint, following which the CBI registered a First Information Report (FIR). The CBI’s Special Task Branch in Mumbai conducted coordinated raids across multiple states and arrested four individuals allegedly involved in the racket.

The CBI has stated that the investigation is still underway to identify and take action against other people involved in the racket.

How was the fraud done?

1. A candidate applies for a banking job: A person registers for a recruitment examination conducted through IBPS.

2. Another person appears in their place: Instead of the actual candidate taking the examination, another person allegedly poses as that candidate and writes the exam.

3. The impersonator attends different selection stages: According to the CBI, the accused allegedly impersonated candidates during both written examinations and interviews.
