2 People arrested for Fraud in SBI main branch Dhanbad

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested two proclaimed offenders, Brijbhushan Prasad and Kartar Singh, in connection with a bank fraud case involving the misappropriation of funds from the State Bank of India (SBI), Main Branch, Dhanbad.

Both accused were arrested on June 21, 2026, after remaining absconding for nearly two decades. This case has been under investigation for more than 20 years.

Fraud Involving ₹1.25 Crore

The CBI had registered the case on August 31, 2005. The case relates to the fraudulent misappropriation of ₹1,25,47,950 from SBI’s Main Branch in Dhanbad. The fraud took place between November 2002 and June 2005.

Accused Had Fled to Nepal

During the course of the investigation, both accused fled to Nepal to avoid arrest. As they remained absconding, the court declared them Proclaimed Offenders. Red Corner Notices were also issued against them to facilitate their arrest. The authorities had also announced a cash reward of ₹25,000 each for information leading to their capture.

Arrested in Coordinated Operation

After years of investigation and continuous efforts, the CBI traced the accused through technical inputs, detailed follow-up, and coordinated action. The agency conducted simultaneous operations at two different locations on June 21, 2026, and successfully arrested both accused.

  • Brijbhushan Prasad was arrested from Kopargaon in Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra.
  • Kartar Singh was arrested from Raipur, Chhattisgarh.

According to the CBI, both accused had been living under assumed identities to evade arrest.
