Katni, MP – A 28-year-old man, identified as Puran Lal Mehra, died by suicide late Wednesday night in Dihuta village under Bahoriband police station area of Katni district in Madhya Pradesh. His body was found hanging from a tree on a hill near the village.
What shocked the family and villagers was a message written on his hand that read: “Rajpal Sir, Bandhan Bank Bahoriband is responsible for my death.”
This name written on the palm of the deceased is of a bank employee working in Bandhan Bank.
According to information, Puran’s wife, Anita Bai, had taken a loan of ₹1.5 lakh from Bandhan Bank. Due to the family’s poor financial condition, they were unable to pay installments regularly. It is alleged that bank officials were pressurising the family for repayment. Puran, who worked as a labourer to support his family, was reportedly under severe stress due to the financial crisis.
When Puran did not return home on Wednesday night, his family members began searching for him. Later, his body was discovered hanging from a tree. The incident triggered anger among family members and villagers. Police sent the body for post-mortem and have launched an investigation.
Prayas Lodhi, Branch Manager of Bandhan Bank’s Bahoriband branch, said – Out of the ₹1.5 lakh loan taken in Anita Bai’s name, only ₹23,000 remains outstanding. He denied allegations of pressure by bank staff, and said that the person named by the deceased, Rajpal Lodhi, had been transferred to Pipariya branch more than two years ago.
Bahoriband Police Station in-charge, Akhilesh Dahiya, confirmed that the writing on the deceased’s hand is being treated as a suicide note. “The matter is under investigation, and further action will be taken based on the findings,” he said.
Based on the note written on the deceased’s hand, the police have registered a case under section 194 BNS and started investigation.
More details will be released soon.
