Barabanki: A serious dispute has come up between a women’s group and the manager of Aryavart Gramin Bank in Ramnagar tehsil. The women, who are part of the Bharat Mata Mahila Prerna Gram Panchayat Sangathan Sirkauli, have accused the bank manager, Shravan Kumar Mishra, of asking them for a bribe.

What Happened at the Bank?

On Tuesday, five women from Nachana village — Leelavathi, Shrimati, Renu, Gyanvati, and Shridevi — visited the bank. They wanted to withdraw money from their group’s account and also discuss getting a loan. However, according to the women, the bank manager demanded a bribe when they approached him. He reportedly showed them the account average and said they needed to pay money to get the loan approved.

Women’s Side of the Story

The women claim that the manager asked them to pay a bribe. When they refused, the manager allegedly told them that their loan could not be passed because there was already a defaulter in their family. The women also shared that two members of their group, Pratibha and Preeti, had earlier received loans of ₹1.5 lakh each — but they had to pay a bribe of ₹10,000 for those loans.

Bank Manager’s Response

The manager said that Leelavathi’s husband is a loan defaulter, and therefore, the loan request could not be approved. He also denied the bribe allegations, saying that since the loan was not passed, the question of a bribe does not arise.
