A woman was arrested on Tuesday after she allegedly assaulted a State Bank of India (SBI) Regional Manager during his inspection visit to the Nawabganj branch of the bank, located on Mainpuri Road in Agra. The police have registered a case and booked her under breach of peace provisions.

The regional manager of the SBI branch came for inspection, when according to sources, a woman came and sat on a kiosk on the other side of the road in front of the bank. As soon as the regional manager came out of the bank, the woman ran and caught the officer and started fighting by grabbing his collar. People present there told that the woman also tried to attack the officer with slippers. Nearby shopkeepers rushed to the spot and somehow saved the regional manager. Nearby people caught the woman and made her sit on the spot. The home guard on duty at the bank informed the police station.
A team from the Kotwali police station reached the spot and took the woman into custody. Regional Manager Prasun Kumar and Bank Manager Mukul Kumar reached the police station with the entire staff and informed the police station in-charge Vidyasagar Tiwari about the incident that happened with them in the bank. On the basis of the information, the police station in-charge Vidyasagar Tiwari filed a complaint of assault on Regional Manager Prasun Kumar on the complaint of bank manager Mukul Kumar.
During questioning, the woman identified herself as a resident of Aheriyara village in Kakua Mau, Agra. She claimed that she had earlier visited the Shamshabad branch of SBI to apply for a loan. According to her, during that visit, she was asked about her caste, and after revealing that she belonged to a Scheduled Caste, she was denied the loan. She also alleged that she was insulted and humiliated by bank officials during that interaction.
On Tuesday, when she visited the Nawabganj branch, she unexpectedly saw the same regional manager, Prasun Kumar, and confronted him. The confrontation escalated into verbal abuse and then physical assault, according to eyewitnesses.
The bank authorities, including the branch manager, immediately reported the matter to the police. Based on a written complaint filed by Regional Manager Prasun Kumar, the police registered an NCR (Non-Cognizable Report) and charged the woman with disturbing public peace.
Police officials stated that the woman was behaving unusually during the altercation and was detained under preventive measures. She was later presented in court and challaned under Section 151 (breach of peace).
Authorities are continuing their investigation to verify the woman’s claims about the previous loan incident. Meanwhile, the bank has assured full cooperation with the police. More details will be released soon.
