How richest countries are ranked?
The countries are ranked according to GDP per capita. GDP per capita means how much money, on average, each person in a country would get if the country’s total income (GDP) were shared equally among everyone. GDP per capita = average income per person in a country.
GDP per capita = Total Population/Total GDP
If India makes $3 trillion a year and has 1.4 billion people, then GDP per capita = $3,000,000,000,000 ÷ 1,400,000,000 = about $2,143 per person.
