Recently, the Indian Overseas Bank Officers’ Association blamed AIBOC for not helping them when their office was locked by bank management and office bearers were not allowed entry into the office.
Is this true? What really happened? Let’s know.
In February 2026, the management of Indian Overseas Bank had locked the office premises of the Indian Overseas Bank Officers’ Association (IOBOA), which is located within the bank’s Head Office building. The bank management affixed an additional lock on the office gate, and office bearers were denied entry into the office.
This building was allotted to the association by the bank itself and functioned as the office of the association alongside the award staff union office for several decades.
The office staff, who arrived for their routine duties, were denied entry and forced to stand outside the premises for the entire day, leading to unnecessary hardship and humiliation. This was done without any prior notice and explanation. The association termed it an attack on legitimate trade union activities.
The matter was escalated to the General Manager (HR) via email, demanding an immediate resolution and restoration of access to the office. To further seek an amicable solution, senior office bearers personally visited the GM(HR)’s office, but the GM did not listen to them.
The management said that the association’s office will be permitted to be kept open only after 5.30 PM daily. The Association said that this act by management was due to the strike announced by the association. IOBOA had announced a one-day strike on 02.03.2026, demanding work-life balance and against the toxic work culture in the bank.
IOBOA said that they requested AIBOC for help during their tough times, but AIBOC did not help them. IOBOA said that the bank management was trying to suppress them, but AIBOC did not save them. Due to this, IOBOA turned towards NOBO-BMS and changed its affiliation from AIBOC to NOBO-BMS.
AIBOC has till now not replied to the allegations made by IOBOA.
