A Union Bank of India manager in Jaunpur committed suicide late Thursday night. He shot himself in a moving car. The car – Tata Sierra car went out of control and hit a divider.
Passersby and nearby residents rushed to the scene, breaking the car window and pulling the manager out. He was taken to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Police recovered a suicide note from the car. The incident occurred near Prabhu Dhaba in the Baksha police station area, 15 km from the district headquarters.
Durgesh Srivastava, 40, was a resident of Gudamba, Lucknow. He lived with his wife, Rachna, in the Van Vihar area of Jaunpur city. He was posted at the Sarai Padri branch of the Sujanganj police station area, 30 km from the city.
His wife, Rachna, said, “He had been under stress for a week. We asked why, but he wouldn’t tell us anything.”
The workers at the eatery said, “We were working when a car collided with the highway divider. We thought it was an accident. We rushed to the scene and broke the window to find the man in the car lying in a pool of blood. He had been shot. A pistol was lying next to the body. We then called the police.”
