The All India Union Bank Officer Staff Association (AIUBOSA) has raised serious concerns over the alleged misconduct of a Regional Head (RH) at the Regional Office (RO) in Berhampur, Odisha. The association has written to the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Union Bank of India, demanding immediate action against the official for using inappropriate and disrespectful language toward a female officer.
Repeated Incidents of Misconduct
According to AIUBOSA, this is not the first instance of such behavior. Earlier, on February 12, 2025, two female Relationship Managers at the Ahmedabad Regional Office had also faced harassment from a Deputy Regional Head (DRH). The matter was brought to the attention of bank authorities on February 14, 2025, through a formal letter. However, before any action could be taken against that incident, a similar case has now emerged from the Berhampur office.
Objectionable Remarks by the Regional Head
The complaint letter details the exact words allegedly spoken by the Regional Head to the female officer at RO Berhampur on March 17, 2025. He reportedly said:
“What work do you have in HR? I always see you in the HR department. Tell me what work you have pending? I will see that it is done. Kuch kaam to tum karti nahi ho, always defy the Regional Head’s chamber aur matakte huye chali jati ho.”
The association has strongly condemned these remarks, calling them highly inappropriate and disrespectful.
Demand for Immediate Action
AIUBOSA has urged the Union Bank management to take strict action against the official and ensure a respectful work environment for female officers. The association has also called for the issuance of an advisory to all regional offices to prevent such incidents in the future.
“The behavior of the RH is objectionable, and female officers must be treated with dignity and respect in the workplace. The atmosphere at the ground level is deteriorating day by day, and immediate corrective measures are required,” the letter stated.
Awaiting Response from Bank Management
The Union Bank management has not yet responded publicly to the complaint. AIUBOSA has warned that failure to act against such misconduct could further damage employee morale and workplace culture.
The case highlights ongoing concerns regarding workplace harassment in the banking sector, prompting calls for stricter oversight and action against officials engaging in inappropriate behavior.
