UCO Bank Officers raise voice against Unfair Transfers in Coimbatore Zone

The Association of UCO Bank Officers (AUCBO), affiliated with the National Organisation of Bank Officers (NOBO) and Bharat Mazdur Sangh (BMS), has announced a protest demonstration to be held on November 13, 2024, in Coimbatore. The protest is aimed at addressing grievances related to alleged discriminatory practices, favoritism, and unfair transfers within UCO Bank’s Coimbatore Zone.

General Secretary of AUCBO, has voiced concerns over several incidents that, according to officers, reflect inequality and undermine fairness in the bank’s operations. The association has called for immediate action to address these issues.

Allegations by Officers against Management

  1. Staffs are taken away from few branches without giving them any replacements
  2. Lady officers have been prematurely transferred during mid-academic year to cause them maximum hardships
  3. But, few lady officers have been identified for their posting choice evident of biased and discriminatory attitude
  4. Officers have been moved from branches to place of their choice creating new assignments specially for them to show favouritism
  5. Glaringly supporting one section of officers by providing sufficient staff and discriminating other officers and ultimately hampering the business of the bank
  6. Branches like Vadakadu and Nagapattinam have been left to suffer without adequate staff
  7. Justification of management towards not providing staff to these branches and keeping intact surplus staff of other branch is discriminatory
  8. In the name of moving surplus staff, branches been made again deficit
  9. Branches which are identified as surplus branches are because of the postings made by management on account of alleged favouritism to one section of officers.
  10. Now in the name of striking balance, again Harmony is disturbed

Allegations of Unfair Transfers and Discrimination

AUCBO’s statement highlights a series of grievances, particularly focusing on the transfer orders issued on October 29, 2024. The most pressing issue involves the alleged premature transfer of female officers during the academic season, which has caused significant disruption in their personal and professional lives. In contrast, other officers are said to have received favorable transfers without facing similar hardships.

The association also raised concerns about the treatment of physically challenged officers. AUCBO claims that requests for convenient postings for these officers have been ignored, further exacerbating their challenges. According to the association, some branches are facing severe understaffing following the controversial transfers, impacting operations and placing additional pressure on the remaining officers.

Concerns Over Staffing Imbalance

AUCBO argues that the transfers have created a significant imbalance in staffing across branches, leaving some locations severely understaffed. Senthil Kumar pointed out that certain officers were moved to branches of their choice, with new positions seemingly created specifically for them. Branches such as Vadakadu and Nagapattinam have reportedly been hit hardest by this imbalance.

In addition to the staffing issues, AUCBO has alleged that the Zonal Manager has responded to union protests with threats of retaliation, which has heightened tensions among the officers. The association has issued an ultimatum to UCO Bank management, demanding the cancellation of the disputed transfer orders and a thorough review of the bank’s staffing policies to ensure fairness and equality.

Upcoming Protest in Coimbatore

AUCBO has made it clear that if its demands are not addressed, it will escalate the matter through larger demonstrations. The protest in Coimbatore, scheduled to begin at 9:00 AM on November 13 in front of the Coimbatore Zonal Office, is expected to be a significant display of solidarity among the officers and a call for immediate action by UCO Bank management.

As the protest date approaches, the tension continues to build, with officers seeking justice and transparency in the transfer process and the allocation of resources across branches.
