UCO Bank Officers protest against Toxic Work culture in Meerut
All India Federation of UCO Bank Officers has written a letter to the CGM of UCO Bank, highlighting the toxic work culture in Meerut Zone.
Employees have complained about threatening/unparliamentary language during VCs and Review Meetings. Some of the important points highlighted in the letter are as follows:
REVIEW MEETING, LATE-NIGHT TRAVEL & ACCIDENT
A Review Meeting at Hotel Broadway Inn, Meerut on 18.07.2026 reportedly commenced around 10:00 A.M. and continued till about 9:00 P.M. Branch Heads from distant centres including Mathura, Aligarh, Bareilly and other locations attended.
Thereafter, a birthday celebration was reportedly held and the Zonal Head himself gave a dance performance, while officers remained present. They could reportedly leave only around 10:30 P.M.
While returning late at night, one of the employee met with a road accident and his car was damaged. Luckily, he survived.
HUMILIATING & THREATENING REMARKS
Employees complain regarding derogatory remarks allegedly made during VCs/Review Meetings. Employees say authorities are using following statements to demean them:
“I will call your family and ask whether you justify your salary.”
“What face will you show your family at home?”
“You are not getting your salary in charity.”
“I will spoil your career.”
WHATSAPP VIDEO CALLS & PREMATURE TRANSFERS
One shocking issue of video call has been highlighted in the letter. Zonal Heads are doing WhatsApp video calls to officers on their personal numbers at odd times.
An officer may be at home or with family. Official accountability cannot mean that an employee must remain camera-accessible on his/her personal device at any time. Personal privacy and reasonable work-life boundaries must be respected.
The condition is so worse that the employees feel pressured and threatened in Meerut Zone. The federation has requested the bank management to look into it and resolve the issue.
