Two Grade B Officers in IDBI Bank passed away in just one Week due to Toxic Work Culture
With profound grief and deep indignation, we inform you that two Grade ‘B’ Officers working in IDBI Bank Bengaluru Zone passed away within a span of one week during September, 2026.
Shri C.S. Vijaya Ragavan (aged 51 years) was posted at Audit Department, Mission Road, Bengaluru during May 2026 under Zone out transfer from Chennai Zone. He passed away on September 21, 2026 (Monday) while he was travelling in Train from Tiruvallur (near to Chennai) to Bengaluru. His family members were staying at Tiruvallur (near to Chennai) and he was staying in Bengaluru alone.
He was about to get down from the Train at 03.50 a.m. at Bengaluru, i.e., scheduled arrival of the Train, and his co-passengers found him not getting up even though his Mobile Alarm was ringing at around 03.30 a.m. As he was not getting up even after trying to wake him up, the co-passengers called T.T.E. who informed them that he passed away during sleep.
He had requested Bank management not to post him in Audit department in out of Zone posting but his request was not considered by the Bank even though he expressed that his age factor and medical condition will not support the required level of travel and late sitting involved in Audit Department. Now we lost a precious life which is an irreparable loss to his family members (spouse and two children).
Another Employee Shri Biju Dev V. (aged 36 years) was posted to Karnataka State from Kerala State on promotion from Grade ‘A’ to ‘B’ during May, 2023 as Branch Head, Dhupadal, Belgaum, a Semi Urban Branch in Hubballi Region of Bengaluru Zone, nearly 1,300 kms from his native place.
He applied for request transfer to his native State, i.e., Kerala through i-ARTS during Jan./Feb., 2026. The Bank did not consider his request to native State even though he completed three years of Branch Head role during his out-of-native-State posting and on submission of medical records.
Instead, he was posted as Branch Head again during April, 2026, now to Sirsi Branch in Mangaluru Region of Bengaluru Zone, nearly 1,300 kms from his native place, where there are no proper medical facilities as the location is very near to Forest Area.
During the first week of May, 2026, the matter of denial of transfer on request through i-ARTS to thirteen (13) Officers from Karnataka to Kerala including Shri Biju Dev V., even after completion of three years of service and on medical grounds, was escalated by the Association to DMD (JSP).
Even then, the Bank did not consider the genuine request which was as per the Bank’s Policy and Shri Biju Dev V. was forced to report at Sirsi Branch as Branch Head during June, 2026.
Non-consideration of genuine request transfer to native State even after completion of three years of service as per Bank’s Policy and Business Pressure in Branch Head role from Zonal/Regional Office deteriorated his medical condition further.
Unfortunately, he passed away on September 26, 2026 (Saturday) at his residence at Sirsi when he was alone as his wife had been to native place in Kerala.
Denial of request transfer even though eligible as per Bank’s Policy and extreme business pressure killed a young Officer causing irreparable loss to his family members (spouse and parents).
The association has asked MD&CEO to conduct a fair, impartial and time-bound enquiry into these two cases, to know the circumstances that led to untimely and unfortunate death of the above mentioned Officers in Bengaluru Zone within a span of one week and also to ensure accountability in this regard.
