The 2024 calendar year will witness a slew of new SUV launches from brands like Hyundai, Tata, Mahindra, Toyota, and Kia. The new SUV list consists of not just updates to existing models but also includes some all-new launches that will hit Indian shores for the first time.

Here is a brief overview of some of the most anticipated SUV launches of 2024:

Tata Curvv

Tata will introduce the electric version of the Curvv with a more than 500 km claimed range first, followed by the ICE Curvv equipped with a 1.5L turbo DI petrol engine. It will compete directly against midsize SUVs such as Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.

Mahindra Thar 5-door

The 5-door Mahindra Thar will have bigger dimensions than the existing model and is based on the same ladder frame platform as the Scorpio N. It will accommodate more passengers and cargo inside and be more practical, without deterring its off-road capabilities. It will use the familiar 2.2L diesel and 2.0L petrol engines with MT and AT choices.

Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor

The Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor will be launched as a rebadged Maruti Suzuki Fronx with minor cosmetic changes. It will be powered by the 1.2L NA petrol and 1.0L turbo petrol engines. The Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor will be slotted above the Glanza and below the Rumion in the brand’s domestic portfolio and it will go on sale in the early months of 2024.

Force Gurkha 5-door

Force Motors will be extending the Gurkha range with a long-wheelbase five-door version. It’s expected to come with multiple seating options, including a bench or captain’s chairs for the second row and jump seats or captain’s chairs in the third row. Expect the five-door version to share much with its three-door sibling, including its Mercedes-sourced 2.6-litre diesel engine mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Nissan X-Trail

The seven-seater Fortuner rival will be launched in India next year and it will be offered with either a 1.5L petrol/mild-hybrid engine or utilise the e-Power range extender technology. The Nissan X-Trail will be packed with features inside and out.

Honda HR-V

Honda has already disclosed its plans to bring in new SUVs to the Indian market and had confirmed the HR-V for our market. The HR-V most likely will be the next big launch from Honda’s stable. Being a compact SUV, the new Honda HR-V will go up against the highly popular Hyundai Creta, Jeep Compass and Tata Harrier along with the upcoming MG Hector.

Mahindra XUV300 Facelift

The Mahindra XUV300 Facelift is bound for the first half of next year and it takes an evolutionary approach to design drawing inspiration from the upcoming BE range as well as the XUV700. The most welcoming addition will be the new interior as it will feature a larger touchscreen infotainment system, a new digital cluster and much more while the existing engine options will be retained.

Kia Sonet Facelift

Caught testing multiple times, the facelifted Kia Sonet will also hit the market in early 2024. It will be thoroughly overhauled visually and the cabin will feature several new technologies and equipment onboard. However, the existing powertrain options will be carried over.

Hyundai Creta Facelift

India’s bestselling midsize SUV is due for a makeover, which will feature design inspiration from Hyundai’s global flagship SUV, the Palisade. These will include a large grille with several metallic horizontal slats, split projector LED headlamps and vertical and horizontal LED Daytime Running Lamps. The more notable changes are likely to be the inclusion of ADAS, a 360-degree camera and an updated 10.25-inch infotainment. It is slated to launch in early 2024.
