The Supreme Court expressed strong disapproval on Monday towards the State of Uttar Pradesh for filing appeals challenging the payment of pension to retired government servants. The court, consisting of Justice Abhay Oka and Justice Rajesh Bindal, noted that it had become a common practice for the State to contest pension matters in the apex court.

Justice Oka expressed his dismay at the State’s actions, questioning why they were attempting to prevent someone from receiving their pension. He remarked that it seemed to be a recurring pattern for the State to oppose the granting of pensions. The counsel for the State argued that the pensioner in this particular case was employed on an ad-hoc basis and that there were errors in the Allahabad High Court’s decision to allow pension. In response, Justice Oka asserted that individuals who have worked for many years are entitled to receive a pension.

Justice Oka made it clear that the Supreme Court is not the appropriate forum for such matters, emphasizing that individuals who have dedicated years of service deserve to receive their pensions. Consequently, the court dismissed the appeal filed by the State of Uttar Pradesh.
