The Maharashtra State Bank Employees Federation has demanded the resignation of State Bank of India (SBI) Chairman Dinesh Khera. The demand comes after Khera made a submission in the Supreme Court requesting more time until June 2024 to provide information on electoral bonds, citing the time-consuming nature of the process.

The Federation argues that Khera’s submission has damaged the bank’s image and shaken its credibility on transparency and corporate governance. They believe that his resignation is necessary to restore the bank’s reputation.

Background on Dinesh Khera

Dinesh Khera is the Chairman of the State Bank of India. He assumed the position on October 7, 2020, and his term is set to end in August 2024. Khera is a career banker with extensive experience in the banking industry. He joined SBI in 1984 as a Probationary Officer and has held various key positions within the bank.

Response from the Federation

The Maharashtra State Bank Employees Federation questions whether Khera made the submission on his own or with the consent of the Board of Directors, including government and RBI nominees. They believe that clarification is needed regarding the position of the government and RBI nominees on record.

Conclusion

The Maharashtra State Bank Employees Federation has demanded the resignation of SBI Chairman Dinesh Khera due to his submission in the Supreme Court regarding the provision of information on electoral bonds. They argue that his actions have damaged the bank’s image and credibility. Khera, a career banker, assumed the position of Chairman in October 2020 and is set to serve until August 2024.

  1. Absolute nonsense. It appears to ttf public that federation leaders are unable to grasp the situation arising out of Hon SC’s directive. No one understands the propensity of the data that arf required by the aprx court. What action they can ask for? The anonymous character of the donor as per the now invalidated law doesn’t allow keeping of audit trail. Who can extract the data that has abinitio flawed input of information. Matching of different sailos is not that easy a task.

    • SBI employee know better than you , It is only 22000 entries and even physical verification can be done in 10-12 days , But if data stored in electronic it is much easier and can be given with click of mouse

  2. Resignation is not the solution, solution is that Shri Khera must proclaim before media with clarification that why does he demand for period upto June 2024.

Both sides it has ruined the image of the Bank if demands under pressure or by taking own decision, while all data are online.

  3. Well done…..the demand for the resignation of the Chairman is well thought & he should resign…. it’s a matter of just one botton touch of the computer to give the required data…..he is playing a game & supporting the Modi government…. expecting a good job with the Adanis / Ambanis after his retirement like the previous Chairman….why will people like him bother about the institution who gave him bread & butter

    • When SC demanded details Chairman of SBI Mr Dinesh Khera immediately furnished. I have health insurance policy through State Bank of India. I had submitted medical bills and requested SBI to furnish me details of reimbursement. I couldn’t get the details The matter was flagged to the Chairman Mr Khera. No acknowledgement nor response from the Chairman’s Secretariat I moved an application under RTI Act but information on my medical bills reimbursement was denied under RTI Act. The matter was also flagged to SBI General Insurance and others related Company. Where senior most citizen like me go to get justice.
      The demand was justified

  4. Who instigated the federation to come out openly against the Chairman?? Any political party behind this? The bank should immediately suspend the federation leader. The chairman of the biggest bank is answerable to it’s board he will take necessary action to submit the particulars called for.

    • Why are you attributing political motive into the demand for resignation of Mr Khera? This is a demand from all the citizens of India.

  5. This is only to grab newspaper headlines . If unions are so sensitive to Bank’s image they should focus on improving customer service.

  6. One AGM has filed the petition in SC instead of MD. The extension pwtition was filed just 2 days before the expiry date. There was no information about how much data analysed? All these things point out the casual approach of SBI top mgmt. So naturally Chairman has to bear the brunt

  7. Resignation is not solution as one friend has mentioned but he should justify time taken for submission. As I feel he has taken June so that during the period he will be comfortable

  8. Khera has set a very bad precedence of kneeling before political expediency. He must speak out of what transpired leading to the humiliatingly tarnishing of the image of the bank , as there must be something behind his gimmick. If he is not ready for that he should quit immediately and apologise for his wrong doing in the least.

    • Nair… have you not committed mistakes in your life, if yes, have you resigned. Check out the meaning of Silo? Even PNB scam was done by a person from South?

  9. If we deposit ior withdraw any amount the data is available. How come huge deposits are not available height of nonsense. He should be sacked immediately

  10. SBI, MD,board members and GOi along with ECI are responsible for this electoral bonds issue.
Very sensitive and delicate subject for general public or Union to.make conjecture.
The order of SC to ECI on bonds disclosure will be dealt with caution and not to create chaos or create doubt in the minds of people.

  11. The demand for resignation is illegal.Bank union must pay attention towards customer services which has deteriorated much in last few years.emsils are not answered and reply to customers are not upto mark.

  12. The Sbi employees are unable to answer public query about loans and deduction in loan account. When
Chairman resigns such employees should also quit

  13. So percolating is very good as from comments seems I salute those who are with Khera and he should remain lifetime chairman. A man is a not man without a backbone.

  14. The submission of the Bank about the inability to link between the two silos of available information, needs appreciation. It is quite possible that Hell will break loose when ECI puts out the information, without proper linkages. Now, SBI is protected from Blame.

The fact that there has been no leakages till date, from inside SBI, about who has purchased these electoral bonds and how much….is a testimony to the robustness of the system implemented by SBI to guard the secrecy as mandated by the scheme.

The loud mouth protestors may in fact be venting their frustration that they couldn’t crack into the system of SBI to snoop information

  15. Banking industry should not permit entry of politics and politicians because it is only one of the well honoured and well image organisation. Banking industry was, is and will be white coloured job.

  16. He is jeopardized the respect the Bank and it officials. Accept his inability to submit his resignation. Being head of the Bank protect the dignity of institution and its employees.

  17. The question is not about Mr.Dinesh as efficient banker but it is about credibility of our nationalized SBI Bank going into doubtful acts with the ruling regime…hiding facts to people of India.

  18. I think BJP is involved in this episode, because any reputed banker won,t do this, because as a banker he knows supreme court is supreme in our country, they are so many times not respected this supreme court and even they don,t bother
about all constitutional bodies ie CAG, EC and SC etc…..
    thanks

  19. How much money federation leaders got to raise issue of resignation of SBI chairman..He is much & most suitable banker as on date in the country. Leaders have no other work but to dance on the tune of few politicians.

  20. Maharashtra State Bank Employees Federation?like India is the capital of Bombay for an American kid long back!

  21. India a Democratic Country Freedom of expressions allowed.Supreme Court in the Picture Hovernment People should act according to Facts.Entire anking SBI CENTRALISED.SERVER I N MUBAI HOLDS DATA TIPP OF FINGER.NO GIMMICS POSSIBLE

  22. SBI employees federation is only bothered about the periodic salary hikes, increase in allowances, bank strikes and bank holidays They are just not bothered about the customer service. In fact they feel customers are big nuisance to them

These employees union have no moral right to demand the resignation of SBI chairman.

  23. Yes.This is a very logical demand. The Chairman of SBI Mr Dinesh Khera must resign immediately because of his wrong doings.Mr Khera’s recent approach or activity definitely has lowered SBI’s reputation in the country & abroad also.

  24. The union is a stooge of the leftist politicians and play ro to the tunes of the masters. If they are so worried about the image of the bank, let them provide good quality service at the counters and the Board of Directors will take care of the Bank

  25. Is Khera loyal to his duty or loyal to his master as some of Chief Justice of Supreme Court too displayed their loyalty to their master to be awarded at appropriate time. It is shame that some big institutions are operated by spineless.

  26. He might have done 99 good things in SBI
    to raise its banner.

SBI has made a strange request with unacceptable reasons to give data of its customers.( Electoral Bond purchasers list) to the Supreme Court of India.

The entire Team should be shown the doors of SBI.

  27. I was suggesting Sri Chandrachud to sack him, because he caused immense damage to the credibility and proved himself to be a slave of Modi. Pl answer to the questions raised by Federation. Godi media spokes person says “Nation Wants to know the truth”. What Modi told this his slave

  28. If you are an SBI customer / Account Holder, then you know the Chairman’s situation due to the efficiency of his staff. The same federation will object to working extra hours, will not respect the manager or the customer, anything you want done will take its own sweet time. Reason – Staff Attitude. With which face can the Chairman commit to the highest Court knowing he cannot keep it up.

  30. Demand is not unusual as the federation is affiliated to CPM. They have no credibility. Leaders are corrupt having scant regards for their members interest. They act according to HMV. His master’s voice.

  31. Entire SBI can’t be held liable for CMD’s action. SBI is finest bank in India. Great they divulge inf. To ECI in stipulated time frame 🙏

  32. It is common knowledge that SBI does not have an inspiring image among the public. But this incident is a matter of shame to any dignified SBI functionary.

  33. Federation is sponsored by Communist Party of India and known for all ills of banking industry. Their demand is not worth of paper and be put in dustbin.

  34. Shocked to hear, demanding Resignation of Boss. I would like to know what is ur contribution towards building of th institution. What is your Productivity towards customer service? Are you serious about your job.

  35. The employees federation has no business to comment on issues which are not in their domain. They should be more concerned about the service to customers for which they are paid by Indian Taxpayers. Most of them belonging to the federation don’t work and waste time on politics all day long.

  36. It was bloody scheme of electoral bonds,we people of India have lots of trust in SBI but the management of SBI trying to secret from all citizens.that’s why the chairman must resign.he cheated all of us by making bloody scheme of electoral bonds.pls resigh as early as possible. Only our supreme court can save our constitution.

  37. There’s something called conscience. This MD lacks that. He is supposed to be the custodian of public money. Why should he be afraid Modi? What can the BJP govt do? Transfer him? So what? With his experience he can always get a good job elsewhere.

  38. The authority concerned, who sought time till June 2024, should be directed to explain the process to generate the report. If the reason is not convincing, the whole set of people, irrespective of their ranks, should be sacked as they will be both irresponsible and incompetent.

  39. The question is why only Maharashtra Bank association only has supported resignation rest all are sleeping?? This clearly a political drama to demean the chairman’s reputation and his dignity. The supreme court is nearly acting as an activist here. When it’s was clearly mentioned by the ex fm the data will never be revealed why is new dram unfolding when the election is coming.

  40. SBI has already don’t have it’s credentials in public opinion due to unprofessional ànd arrogant behaviour of majority of the employees. All the Bank employees federation are affiliated to communist party who always stand against Indian government policies and simply brainwashed all their members to oppose everything.

  41. Be true to yourself and God. Never ever play games with the public. Be trustworthy and not pawns in the hands of crooks and power-brokers. These are too small to live with head held high.

  42. The top officials are bounded by responsibilities. Under the political developments and observations by Hon’ble Court, there is no other way for compliances. The Bank has done the duty within the prescribed time. Hence, there is no necessity to ask for resignation. The Federation is either influenced by Left organisations or a mere act of no diligency.

  43. Perhaps we are re entering and era where corporate lobby, bankers and people in cohort as it happened in Germany under the third Reich which made Germany the most powerful nation in the world in a very short span of time and equally ruined it. The individual greed when it becomes national greed under invocation of hyper nationalism, the capitalist regimes metamorphoses into fascist regimes. This act of slipping into fascism can arise even with left regimes due to revisionism in the communist or socialist party’s outlook and resultant actions that destroys democratic centralism within all party units and hierarchies. We as citizens the onus is on us to safeguard our democracy and fight clawing in and gobbling of our rights and responsibilities. All attempts will be enacted by both rightist and leftist regimes. A good judicious combination of capitalism and balancing socialism and safeguarding our rights and equally discharging our duties and responsibilities towards the welfare of the citizens and nation is the need of the hour. Both politics of polarization and appeasement fail to arrive at this delicate balance. We want India to be number one nation without any sort of poverties. This is what architects of our constitution envisaged, let us safeguard it as our primary duty and responsibility.

  44. Why don’t they ask resignation from the managers or GMs when customer service is zero, does the bad service not impact the image. It is worst these days.

  45. SBI pretends that they SC judgment was to collate the data in two silos while the judgment required to furnish data in each silo. Ignorance of the highest level. What is the motive?

    • The issuance of Electoral Bonds(bearer instruments) despite RBI’s several advice(s) by way of objections and the encashment of the same to a maximum extent (in number) and now the seeking time to furnish the data at first instance and later providing the information after SC directions–needs thorough examination with probable violation of Anti Money Laundering/OML guidelines.

  46. If the Bank employees are so concerned about the the credibility of SBI , they should look inwards & try to know that quality sevice they offer. That’s is very poor. People at the counters behave roughly with the customers & do their job casually.

  47. Why no one sound to resign who looted on record or amassed wealth of this country in thousands of crores and enjoying with family at the cost of ” Bholi Janta “and still dictating terms and in que to loot again

  48. Leave politics. Come to the administrative issues. Look at the customer service. It is getting shabbier day by day.

  49. What credibility SBI is having they always delay the work common man for every work cannot approach the court to chase the bank. This is high profile case that’s why SBI has to follow willy nilly!

  50. Wait and see..the raw data given to ECI will need again the SBI to understand it..and the time taken will be the same..the supreme court has many things to do but they are more interested in poking their nose in the law passed.

  51. Absolute nonsense for govt psu employees association to demand resignation of the Chairman based on the arguments made before the court by the Bank. Totally political demand. The association is liable to be banned for being political.

  52. The indignation & humiliation felt by the rank& file of the SBI organisation needs to be assuaged by the immediate & unsolicited resignation of the Chairman of SBI — the least the Nation demands.

  53. If they are concerned about the reputation, all the employees should resign as the service and behaviour of the employees of SBI is very bad.

  54. Chairman of SBI has dented the reputation of SBI by his lies and by misguiding the supreme Court of india on the matters concerning the electoral bond issue! He has clearly acted in support of the BJP govt and against the national interests.
He should resign immediately to restore the nation’s faith in the largest public sector bank of the country!

  55. The Employees union should first think about improving the customer service in SBI, which is deteriorating day by day & the way it is looting it’s customers in the form of service charges for almost every transaction..
Further it should also fight about the waiver of very big loans using the public funds and not showing interest to get back fugitives like Nerav Modis & Malias..

  56. Why blame the Chairman now!! This is not the normal type of Bonds that the Bank issued. It is at the behest of the Govt. which had its own reason and logic to float such Bonds. So much of confidentiality and secrecy have been built in. The Bonds were conceptualised in 2017 and the need for transparency comes now only with all urgency. I don’t think it is right to blame the Chairman or even the Board. SBI’s name will never go down due to this. Rather SBI has been maintaining a great goodwill since long. Millions are placing the deposits with SBI due to the Trust the Bank has built in for several decades.

  57. SBI services are very harassment. They treat customer like a beggar. If association is so concerned about reputation of bank, first look at what services they provide. It’s very shame association is worried about reputation.

  58. Seems like SBI chairman, become the puppet of Dictator, Undemocratic Modi Govt, This govt is abolishing democratic image of all constitutional institutions as well as Financial institutions inthe country, Such Chairmans should not only resigned, they should also be a prosecuted like the culprit officer in charge of Chandigarh Mayoral poles,,,,

  59. The bank employees, are so ineffective that my request to close my s. B account given in the month of April 24 with the Chembur branch is still to be given effect… No information is received till now about the closure. They are so inefficient and arrogant too when we approach them for any answer or clarification. They do not have any right to talk about Chairman’s resignation.

  60. SBI is like a monopoly. Service offered by its staff, managers is very poor. The staff enjoys all the advantages of a Government sector as well as private sector.

  62. The so-called local federation is talking like politicians. The are jokers and not working like employees but like politicians & divisive tactics. Suddenly they realize a bad name for the bank but they don’t work for the money they get as a Fat salary& perks. Shedding crocodile tears. SC also was sleeping since 2017 and suddenly woke up at such an urgency & can’t give extension of two moths. Politicians, Judges, bureaucrats everyone is a chameleon only- waiting for a time to kill the other two.

  63. Rather than asking the chairman first let the employees be sent to school to learn how to behave with public because of the useless service I have stopped all my transactions with SBI and moved to a PSB having its headquarters at Bangalore…
