Shri Jitendra Asati may be appointed as the Government of India Nominee Director in Punjab & Sind Bank. An Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) of the shareholders of the Bank is scheduled to be held on January 21, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. through Video Conferencing (VC) / Other Audio Visual Means (OAVM). In this meeting, Bank will seek approval of appointment of Shri Jitendra Asati as the Government of India Nominee Director of the Bank.

Profile of Shri Jitendra Asati

Mr. Asati, an All India Topper of the Indian Economic Service, joined the Government as an economist bureaucrat in January 2010. During his early years in service, he served with distinction in various roles in the Ministry of Finance, India’s Mission in Washington DC, and the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. Before joining the Government, Mr. Asati worked as a Grade B Officer in the Reserve Bank of India.

Mr. Asati made a strong impact as Assistant Director in the Ministry of Finance, where he handled important areas such as the Financial Stability and Development Council, external markets, and foreign direct investment. He played a key role in shaping the External Commercial Borrowings policy and in drafting investment regulations under the Foreign Exchange Management Act.

During his tenure in Washington DC, Mr. Asati was instrumental in strengthening cooperation between India and the United States in the areas of economic, trade, and investment relations. Later, as Officer on Special Duty to the Union Petroleum Minister, he contributed significantly to several major reforms in the oil and gas sector, including pricing reforms, subsidy rationalisation, and initiatives aimed at improving ease of living.

In the Department of Financial Services, Mr. Asati has been entrusted with responsibilities related to promoting financial inclusion, increasing agricultural credit to strengthen the rural economy, and improving the viability of Regional Rural Banks across the country.

Mr. Asati has received gold medals and Certificates of Excellence during his academic career. He holds an M.Phil degree from Jawaharlal Nehru University and has qualified for the All India Junior Research Fellowship. He has authored several articles in reputed journals and leading economic dailies on a wide range of economic subjects.
